The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Does South Hobart have the money to though? Ideally because of geographic placement, I think Canberra would be in a good spot if it's going to be primarily VIC + NSW. But the only club in Canberra that I can realistically see even be able to be a waiter at that party is Croatia.
If the Federation can back them now that they no longer are looking at an APL team you would hope so.

I'm happy with that - but it needs to go wider than 2 states first.
10000% Agreed... Ive said it before, its gotta start somewhere... I would be happy for this to be Season 0 and as of next season they announce that whoever wins their NPL (plus 2nd and or 3rd depending on the size of the state) will start season 2028 as part of the National Premier League of Australia

Saw on that suited and booted show the other week Rashid Mahazi, a retired professional footballer who played in the a league, and who’s job it is now to cover the game, only just learned that the nsl once had a conference system ..completely new information to him lol. The fact you weren’t around for it isn’t an excuse, how can you not even be aware that that happened. And these are the football people
I mean ignoring the fact that he was born in 92, He doesn't hide that he's more of a general supporter of the game rather than a hardcore fan like Jerogba

So the question remains. A NSD needs to have more than 2 states. So who can realistically step up. Someone mentioned Adelaide City in relation to them chasing Balotelli. If they have that sort of money then they would seem to be a chance. South Hobart. I suspect we forget a Perth team at this stage. Queensland federation seems to be a problem as well.

But a 10 team 4 state 18 game home and away plus finals seems very doable.
From memory, it needed to be four states and 12 teams to get a league off the ground. I can't see meeting that being a problem now.

A closed 10 or 12 or 14 club NST will fail , maybe not immediately but after 2-3 years it will.. Has to be pro rel from the very start (or from the second season at worst) for this to have ANY chance of succeeding.

The first 2 years were meant to be about "gathering metrics" lets see what lies they feed us in December.
Yeah I said similar last year about getting stale without pro/rel, same as A-League. Whether it's connected above or below, the powers that be need to make a call in the next few months and get it implemented.

Next friday should be released. Clubs are currently going through there preferences, days and times. First in best dressed ive heard.
it says in the media release The full 2026 Australian Championship fixture list - including venues, dates and kick-off times for all matches - and media accreditation details will be released in the coming weeks.

What a year it’s potentially shaping up to be for South Melbourne fans. Aus cup derby away win at Preston, now hosting an aus cup semi to potentially host the aus cup final v Melb victory or Sydney fc. Then big home and away ties v Sydney united for the first time in 20 years etc

If you offered them that before the season started I think theyd all have taken it

One of the South co presidents has said South will play Sydney United on matchday one. Doesnt say where but assuming will be home, gotta be looking at 7,000 mark.

As the tournament opens on a Thursday night. Im hoping its on a Friday night at lakeside?

Do you think you’d get more travelling on a Saturday or much the same either way?

Same question goes for south fans on here for the reverse fixture
