Short answer is it doesn't work. Current system is inadequate.
Other leagues around the world have a proper transfer economy. Clubs down the development chain all get a piece of the pie. That doesn't really happen here.
 
Jacob Young (Australian, Son of Stuart Young) describes himself on LinkedIn as a "Former professional football player at Perth Glory FC, TSG Hoffenheim, and Sunderland AFC. Jake Young (English, Currently playing for St Mirren) is, according to reports, about to sign for Perth Glory. The Scottish transfer window still has another 34 hours to run so they are not in a hurry. There isn't a Young at Glory yet.
