General A Leagues thread (Men and Women) 2026/27 season

The Adelaide Brisbane change is bloody stupid.

As the article states, we don't have a Round 1 game now and we are going to be playing an extra game in the Christmas heat with short recovery times just like last season.

It's Round 1 so what was wrong with just moving the game back a day?

One sided decision making by the APL.

Apl is grinding the game down to park football. I don't mind chatting on 1 or 2 platforms but I'm luke warm on football here, unless the the comp becomes open.
One can make an argument about Nsl clubs not being permitted into top flight football as they are insular and cannot add value.
That can also be interpreted as, they are run by and supported by wogs so let us opt for a preferred vanilla closed type competition.
Let us isolate 50% of the fanbase.
I'm not subscribed to anything anymore until this changes.
This will never change you say? Well, I'm not interested in adding value from my pocket either.
Conroy has to go, he influences everything to what it is today, including pfa issues with wage structures.

There is a hilarious irony in not starting the season until midway through October to have “clean air” (whatever that means in today’s sporting landscape), only to then have to postpone a Round 1 game because our actual sport doesn’t allow us to have the clean air anyway.

Brisbane being annoyed that they can’t start their season in the first week is completely fair. It’s clearly not ideal for everyone involved.

However, the whinge about “fixture congestion” that I’ve seen from some Brisbane staff on X is tinpot and pretty poor.

We’ll now go weekend-to-weekend until the November international window. Play the weekend after that window, then have a week off for this bizarre split-round thing (WTF is that?). Then it’s Sat/Tues (the rescheduled game)/Sat, followed by 11 days off before a Wednesday night game on 30 December.

After that, it’s back to weekend-to-weekend football until the season ends.

That is hardly some horrendous fixture schedule.

The fact that fixture congestion is already being raised publicly by club staff is probably the bigger concern. It feels like a mentality issue more than anything else.

I know this is harsh, but I question the need for professional referees. Crowds wouldn't drop if you had ringins
