I guess it means that under a closed shop we have a tradeoff between the success of the a league and the success of the roos. The better one days the worse the other, because as soon as financial pressure on the league is relieved they stop playing kids (or at least play them less often).

I guess the magic sauce of p&r is it keeps the financial pressure on teams even when the league improves?

If there's one thing about Craig Foster is his passion for the game is the real deal!!

Sure, he's not everyone's cup of tea and can be a bit spiky but there's plenty of people in the football world who talk about passion. But Fozzie's is the kind that actually feels lived-in.

I'm up to the 20 min mark. One of the most interesting G and G Pods to date! Right up my alley.

Not too many questions to ask from Grazor! Fossie expounds in some detail for any question Grazor poses loosely around Socceroos IQ up to the 20 min mark.

On a world scale Tom Byer and Stefan Syszminski ( Simon Kuper's co-writer) are bigger names globally, but Craig Foster is the biggest name in Aus football we've had on the Podcast to date.

Interesting Fossie talking up the quality of an underage team he thought were the Mariners, when they were NPL 2. Good to see him wax lyrical about SAP - the Skills Acquisition Program - and the reinforcement of the 4 Core Skills of underage players. If anyone is interested I'll list the 4 of them here. Credit to him coaching youth for Football NSW for 7 years.

Also, good for Fossie to elucidate Aus beating Germany and Argentina in an underage big international comp, but technically those Aussie players weren't going to develop into world class players because of less technical quality that is required to become world class.

I was hoping for this Podcast on Tuesday morning when I tackled the ironing - but it wasn't available.

I'm looking forward to finishing the Podcast.

I've met him in person and he was charming.
 
I’ve met Foster a number of times.
No diff to anyone one of us having our political differences amongst other things pretty normal - I’m polar opposite to him but on football I do listen to his internal experience and points on important topics from admin to development.
He also does present well sometimes like a pollie that is one irk.
His passion for the game out weighs my irks.
Kudos to the forum roping him in well done fellas - I’d say #1 guest to date !

Have you reached out to Craig Johnston - Zelko MS - Bresch is a great personality and Ned whilst I’m at it here ?

To be honest, I've found him to be a little bit hypocritical on one or two issues over the years and as I said a little bit spiky in the delivery of his footballing ideology but then who isnt?

Look at some of us lot on here....🤣

But love him or hate him, there's no denying that he’s a genuine football man who really knows his stuff and you can't knock him for that!!
 
I was catching up with a couple of "mini matches" from Ligue Un and iol' mate Simon Hill was commentating on one of the games and as usual he was very good. You'd think he'd been doing Ligue Un for a decade!

Anyway maybe Grazor could approach Simon for the pod?

He's another with superb knowledge on the game in Australia and everywhere else but obviously with a different perspective from Fozzie.

He lives in the Portsmouth area which isn't a million miles from Southampton Grazor.

On TV as a match commentator he has completely lost his rag when the Socceroos aren’t doing what he wants.

However, I met him in a different context where he was under no pressure at a football holiday camp. The camp Organiser introduced me to Fossie. He delivered a good speech to inspire youth footballers shortly after meeting him too. It had a message of the resilience needed for whenever young players are inevitably overlooked for an elite squad or team.

He also emphasized the importance of working on ball mastery. With my teaching/coaching hat on I would have advocated and demonstrated specifics too to make his delivery and presentation ideal.

Credit to him coaching at youth level too for 7 years. I know people who were his coach educators in advanced coaching, semi- pro and pro, and Fossie was a great student and willing to embrace new methodology too.

Great post and a great perspective on the Fozz there Decentric...👍

I haven't met too may footballers or ex-footballers but one I did spend some time with was ex Middlesbrough, Celtic and Ipswich player Tony Mowbray who is currently managing Blackburn Rovers.

I sat next to him on a busy 2.5 hours train journey from Darlington to London a few years back and he was very enthusiastic about talking about football on the journey and particularly Spanish football which was his big interest in terms of watching it.

He actually had a Craig Foster-like passion for the Spanish game.

He also made his way through 3 big packets of chocolatr M & M's.....🤣
