I suppose the positive is that they must be optimistic about the championship going h and a

Weird they would neglect the npl tho when they have no other time for seniors to play

To be fair in the end they did up their investment in the transfer window to try and save themselves, it’s just that it was too late and they’d left themselves too big a task with too little time and too hard a run home…had to play all the top 3 etc

We shall see what the clubs reaction is next season. Will be one of the most important years in their history

Central Coast United was formed out of the Central Coast Football Academy.

It really is there for someone with connection to the Coast that no longer fit under the Central Coast Mariners Academy age rules, have not made the CCMA side or can no longer keep the levels of the ALM but want to stay on the Coast. They are connected to all the local clubs, Central Coast Sports College, Central Coast Mariners Academy and Central Coast Mariners. In a lot of ways it aligns to the regional model.

Some of the players have been Brad McDonald, Matt Hatch, Louis Božanić, Matt Simon, Dean Heffernan, Mitchell Prentice, Brad Porter,
Damien Brown, Matt Crowell, Cade Mapu, Matthew Trott

Thanks - so essentially is an association academy club?

I think like you have said here - it very much fits a regional model, and these are the kinds of association clubs I am ok with.

Curious to this as well. To me - although Croatia are THE example club in Canberra, Monaro is an acceptable substitute lower down the totem pole. Knowing Canberra football, I would say of the remaining clubs, they're probably the only acceptable substitute at the moment..

yep fa always said they were only paying travel for the first 2 years.

let's see how serious people are about predicting a full season comp when bayswater has to fly to sydney every 2nd week

Any idea as to what the proposed new model would be? Or does that just mean the financial model?

I think we have reached the point where the Australian Championship either becomes a home and away competition or is scaled back as an end of season football carnival (as it was the case under the previous NPL national playoffs before Covid). No point in clubs committing extra resources to a competition that Football Australia may not prioritise given the pressure from other 'self-interest groups' not wanting to see a successful second tier competition.

I am hoping that clubs like Sydney United, APIA, Marconi, Preston, Avondale and Wollongong, along with South Melbourne remain committed to a second tier competition. Just need another team from Queensland and South Australia. I think Sydney Olympic is done.

Another successful Australian Championship might allow some clubs that were initially reluctant to invest in it may see the benefits and commit to stepping up. Time will tell.

Still not ready to write Olympic off long term, but bare minimum maybe they need a reset and rebuild

It would definitely become only those that nominate and can show the financial capability to support the travel and admin costs. Some quick maths, if you started with 10 teams, 18 games H&A, with the existing 8 plus 1 from Qld and 1 from SA, travel costs come out around $750k for the full league, and if clubs paid into a shared pool (rather than pay for their own) it's $75k per team. This assumes 25 people travelling per team, 1 night accommodation twin/share, and moderate flight costs. If you went down clubs pay their own, NSW clubs would be up for $55k, Vic $78k, and Qld/SA $122k.
