I have to admit that it felt surreal when eating pasta in Milan cooked by Chinese (and Chinese waiters) even though it was authenticly cooked as said families had been in Italy since the 1700's.

Even deeper into the weeds here and controversial but Milan is barley Italy imo, it’s “Europe”/the EU Ala Brussels or Frankfurt. Not the place to eat Italian food. Often considered to be the least Italian city in Italy, way up north, almost at the Swiss border and more in common with them than the rest of Italy. First place to do away with many traditions in favour of “progress”/“economics”. And that not just me, many Italians in Italy will say the same. The further south you go the more you’re getting towards proper buppi bappi territory

Yeah when I was over there the northern Italians made it known how Germanic their culture is. I think they wanted their own country, I think it was around Tyrol?

It’s also true that it’s much more multicultural than other parts of Italy because of the finance industry, industrial base etc etc it’s probably the only place in Italy with an actual economy/industry of some sort. Hence the strength of the Milan clubs. The rest of the country is basically just food, history and tourism

Not in this case per se, but It’s interesting how parramatta stadium is essentially off limits now for Sydney fc for a hypothetical final or whatever even when it might be the best suited venue on x occasion. They used to use it from time to time before the wanderers were born and it became their permanent home

Fwiw just to clarify my family isn’t from the south, they’re from Rome. A rarity among the Italian diaspora of Australia. Go a bit further back through the ancestry and the waters muddy but thats neither here nor there. That’s important to disclose when I make these statements because Rome and Milan have a Sydney - Melbourne style historical rivalry. So no doubt my thoughts are biased by that. Most Italians in Australia do trace their ancestry to the south though which is the poorer part of the country historically

The general rule is that the further north an Italian is, the more aloof and self-important and arrogant they are. Hehe

Should we just set up the football calendar to suit Victoria. You already have a HUGE advantage playing the A league teams almost 3 months out of season, and at home.

I've been to Bolzano ( look it up ). I was eating pretzels in the town ffs. Beautiful place & great hiking. They did the recent Winter Olympics about an hour from there. The area is called Suditrol ( South Tyrol).
