The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Bayswater City and Oakleigh Cannons also officially (even though they've both more or less been for a couple weeks) premiers this evening. All sixteen now locked in assuming nobody says no, but of the group I can't imagine any do.
 
Is it a better grouping of clubs compared to last year. On the one hand, yes.

Adelaide City, Sutherland, QLD Lions offer more. But as good as Oakleigh have been, they are a fanless club, compared to Heidelberg.

However Sutherland only came 4th, and Sydney Olympic are obviously awful. Wollongong? Same as last year?

South Melbourne are technically much better than last year, but we were already recovering from our mid year slump last year, when we recruited big and won the thing.

Will be interesting to see what sort of squad Olympic are able to put together for the championship

And as a side note how they’ll convince their latent support to come out to the games with the season they’ve just had and with the civil war within the club ongoing.

Again, unfortunate this is all playing out at the time championship is kicking off, for all the valid critiques of how Olympic has been run behind the scenes, they’ve for the most part been there or there abouts on the field most years in the post nsl era. And whilst inconsistent they’ve been capable of pulling together some kind of support for big one off games. This last year or so has been their lowest ebb

Also worth noting btw for people who are only recently getting to know npl nsw how much of a turn around in fortunes this has been for Sutherland. Whilst they’re a solid historic suburban club, they’ve been very lucky to avoid relegation multiple times this decade before the recent drastic uptick in investment off the top of my head. If I’m not mistaken they were saved once or twice by sheer dumb luck..expansion of the comp, Covid etc

Depends on who olympic and Wollongong bring in.

Transfer period is from 9th September to 15th September
 
Wonder what Oakleighs approach to this championship will be. Hope they go all in and cause a few upsets.

Maybe the casualty will be sydney olympic in the end... hahahaha

Agree but it's a strange situation. Aren't they basically a separate entity for the Championship? But they did have their guarantee refunded so shouldn't be "guaranteed" a spot.

I'm ok to let it go if it's just for this last year of the group format. The NPL teams will become the youth teams anyway, so it won't be a big deal when we have a proper league format.

This is it, they’ve actively jumped the gun re turning the npl into a youth team. Will look very silly if the championship doesn’t end up going H&A any time soon
