We see a lot of it, but we lost Yallop and our head coach along with a heap of other players this time.

It feels like a total rebuild rather than just a heavy turnover.
 
I am not a women's football fan so thanks for giving me context.

Understandable why the men needed a massive rebuild but ladies does seem odd. Do you think with a new coach they have taken advantages of that to build a squad in his style and maybe weren't full fans of the direction under the previous coach? Seemed from my very little knowledge that the squad need more small changes then a full overhaul.

I also am not a great follower of the women's game - just like to keep an eye on what's happening with our team.

I agree with your observation that there seems to be a high turnover of players in the women's league. I think the very short season we have and the still developing sport globally sees the better players moving much more frequently than in men's football.

Having said that, there are many seasons where the Roar and other teams have players that I recognise season after season and they retain pretty stable squads. We have had our share of baked on orange players whose names are synonymous with the Roar.

Might be cyclical - but I suspect teams that feature regularly in the top 4 will have more holding power and attraction than teams struggling to make finals at all. Not that different from any team in any sport in that regard I guess.

In the short time since we got our new coach I doubt there were many contracts that came due and were not renewed by choice. More just players looking at what suits them best. Who we sign to replace departing players will tell us a lot about where the women's team is heading. If we see an 'influx of promising youth' we can probably make comparisons to our men's team.

As a valued member, we're excited to let you know first the exciting news that we have re-signed young Queensland forward Grace Kuilamu for the 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women season.

A product of Souths United FC and the Football Queensland Academy of Sport, Kuilamu made history as the youngest ever Ninja A-League Women's goalscorer on debut in 2023 and has continued to develop into one of the competition's most exciting young attacking talents having scored 9 times in 26 appearances since joining the club.

Kuilamu returns to the Roar after her season was cut short last season having suffered an ACL injury with aim of returning to being a key contributor this upcoming campaign.

Speaking on recommitting to the club Kuilamu said, “I'm grateful and excited to keep playing for my hometown club. This is where I've grown up as a footballer, and I can't wait to keep improving with this group. I still feel like I've got so much more to give, and I want to keep repaying the faith the club has shown in me.”

New Head Coach Johnathan Clemente said Kuilamu's re-signing reflected the club's commitment to developing homegrown talent.

"Grace is an outstanding young talent with a huge ceiling and keeping her at the club is a great sign of what we're building for the future. Her movement and finishing in and around the box are well beyond her years, and she's going to be a real focal point for us in attack."

Kuilamu's continued development remains a key part of Brisbane Roar's long-term pathway program for young Queensland talent. ​

As a valued member, we're excited to let you know first the exciting news that the club has re-signed CommBank Young Matildas midfielder Zara Kruger ahead of the 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women season.

The Warwick-born midfielder returned to the Roar in 2024 after a season with Championship-winning Sydney FC and has been a key part of the midfield engine room ever since. A graduate of the Queensland NPL with Lions FC, Kruger has represented Australia at Young Matildas level, including at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia.

Speaking on returning for the new season, Zara said, “I’m really excited to be wearing the Roar jersey for another season. I’m looking forward to playing in front of all our fans again and another season of working hard towards finals football.”

New Head Coach Johnathan Clemente welcomed the re-signing, saying, “Zara has been one of the best young talents in the country for many years now and her quality and composure in possession will be a big asset to the squad."
Kruger's re-signing continues Brisbane Roar's push to retain its core of Queensland-produced talent ahead of the new season.

As a valued member, we're excited to let you know first the exciting news that the club has re-signed CommBank Matildas forward Sharn Freier for the 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women season.

A proud local product out of Moreton Bay United and The Gap FC, Freier has been one of the standout stories of Brisbane Roar's recent history, rising from A-League prospect to full Matildas international and Olympian in the space of a single breakout season.

Her form for the Roar has earned her four club awards, including Player of the Year, and led to a club-record transfer to German giants VfL Wolfsburg before her return to Brisbane on loan.

Speaking on returning, Sharn said, “I’m really excited to be playing at the Roar for another season. We’ve got a fresh squad and a new coach, so I’m keen to get stuck in and see what we can do this season. I also can’t wait to play in front of our fans who show up and support us every home game.”

New Head Coach Johnathan Clemente said Freier's continued commitment to the club was a major boost as he begins his tenure.

“Sharn is one of the standout players in the competition and has been for many years, an absolute nightmare to play against and prepare for, Sharn at full speed is a scary proposition for the opposition and am excited to have her back.”​

Brisbane Roar sign Moldovan forward Virgiliu Postolachi​

As a valued member, we're excited to let you know first the news that the club has signed Moldova international centre-forward Virgiliu Postolachi on a two-year deal for the 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League Men season.

Postolachi, 26, joins from Romanian Superliga club Universitatea Cluj and will wear the number nine shirt.

Born in Edineț, Moldova, Postolachi moved to France with his family as a child and joined the Paris Saint-Germain academy in 2013. He won back-to-back French under-17 championships with the club, scoring twice in the 2017 final against Monaco, and signed his first professional contract at PSG in July 2018.

He joined Lille in 2019 before moving to Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron, where he made his senior debut against Antwerp in August 2020, and spent the second half of that season on loan at Vendsyssel FF in Denmark.

His first season in Romania brought about 10 goals for UTA Arad in 2022/23. A season at Ligue 2 club Grenoble followed before he returned to Romania with CFR Cluj, winning the Cupa României in his first campaign there.

He joined Universitatea Cluj in September 2025. Postolachi has been capped 37 times for Moldova at senior level.

Speaking on the signing of Virgiliu, Brisbane Roar Sporting Director James Gow said, “Virgiliu’s signing brings the team a striker who can play with his back to goal, wins the ball in the air, and gives us a way of attacking heading into the season.

“He’s already shown he can score in European football and we’re very confident he can help the squad continue to build in the right direction as we inch closer to the start of the 2026/27 season.”

Speaking on joining the Roar, Virgiliu Postolachi said, “I’m excited to be joining Brisbane Roar and for the new challenge of playing in Australia. I’m hungry and ready to give my all for the club and it’s fans who look forward to meeting very soon.”

Postolachi is currently on route to join his new teammates in Indonesia ahead of the team’s pre-season tour this week.​

Answers the question about him using his head at least a little.

We need to see a better performing defensive group than we have seen so far this pre-season, but the midfield and forwards look like we have something to work with.

My orange glasses and I are starting to think we might turn out alright.

According to Google, our second game in Indonesia, against Persija Jakarta, will be streamed on Persija Jakarta's Youtube channel.

As a valued member, Brisbane Roar wishes to inform you first that the club has re-signed American defender Josie Studer for the 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women season.

Studer joined the Roar from USL Super League club Carolina Ascent ahead of the 2025/26 season, following five standout years at Louisiana Tech University. Since arriving in Brisbane, the fullback has become a mainstay of the Roar backline, prized for her defensive solidity and ability to get forward in support of attack.

Speaking on putting pen to paper, Studer said, “I am so excited to be back for another season with Brisbane Roar! This club means so much to me. Fighting for the Roar faithful was an absolute honour. We made massive strides towards our goal last season, and will no doubt be leaving it all out there to bring it home this year.”

Speaking on the return of Studer, head coach Johnathan Clemente said, “Josie proved to be an excellent addition to the league last season, athletically dominate with a real hunger to defend, she will be an important player for us defensively.” ​

Brisbane Roar can today confirm to you first as a valued member the signing of experienced defender Isabel Hodgson ahead of the 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women season.

Hodgson joins the Roar as a free agent following 11 seasons for Adelaide United, where she served as club captain and sits third on the club's all-time appearance list.

A proud South Australian, Hodgson made her A-League Women debut for Adelaide at just 17 years of age and has since become one of the competition's most respected and experienced defenders.

Speaking on joining the Roar, Isabel Hodgson said, “A massive thank you to the Roar for reaching out and believing in me. I’m still confident I’ve got plenty of football left in me, and I’m excited to prove it.

“I’m really looking forward to working with such a passionate and driven coach, and I’ll be doing everything I can to help the Roar succeed.”

New Head Coach Johnathan Clemente welcomed the addition of Hodgson's experience and leadership to the squad.

“Izzy’s is one of the most experienced players in the competition and will add value and quality to the squad, she is versatile in the wide areas and am looking forward to working with her.” ​
 
Signing Isabel Hodgson is no small thing.

Adelaide have to think her past her best, but I would say we are looking for experience and control at the back and Hodgson will provide that.

The Women's team seem to be shaping up into a pretty decent squad. Good enough for our new coach to show what he can bring at the least.

Midfielder Momo Hayashi departs Brisbane Roar ​

Brisbane Roar FC can confirm that Momo Hayashi will depart the club, bringing an end to two unforgettable seasons in orange.

Since arriving ahead of the 2024/25 Ninja A-League campaign, Hayashi quickly became a fan favourite, her flair and fearlessness in midfield endearing her to the Roar faithful from her very first appearances.

Her eye for the spectacular produced some of the Club's most memorable moments on the park, and she was recognised among the League's best, earning a Fan's Player of the Year for the 2025/26 season.

The Club made genuine efforts to keep Momo at Brisbane Roar, but she has expressed a desire to pursue a new challenge in her career and the Club respects that decision.

Speaking on departing, Momo said, "Brisbane has been home for me, and this club and its fans will always have a piece of my heart."

"I've given everything I have in this orange shirt, and I'll never forget the moments we shared together. To the fans who sang for me every week, thank you for your support over the years it has meant so much to me."

Roar Land Philippines International Katrina Guillou​

Brisbane Roar FC is pleased to announce the signing of Filipino international midfielder Katrina Guillou for the 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women's season.

Guillou joins the Roar from DC Power FC in the USL Super League, bringing a wealth of professional and international experience to the Club's midfield. The 31-year-old has been a mainstay of the Philippines Women's National Team, contributing immensely across more than 40 international appearances, and was part of the Philippines' historic first Women's World Cup squad in 2023.

She was named Philippine Women's Football Association Player of the Year that same year.

Before her move to DC Power FC, Guillou built a well-travelled professional career across Europe, with stints in Finland, Switzerland and Sweden, following a standout college career at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Head Coach Johnathan Clemente welcomed the signing as a significant addition to the squad.

"Katrina's a technically gifted and extremely hard working midfielder with experience playing at the highest level in Sweden, the USA and at the World Cup. She is a massive coup for the club and we're excited to have her."
Guillou said she is looking forward to the challenge of A-League Women's football.

"I'm excited for this next chapter and opportunity to compete and push myself. I'm looking forward to the competition and everything that comes with it." ​
 
I don't know anything of Guillou other than what is in the article, but she sounds like a strong, skillful midfielder with a good work rate.

Looks to me to be a good midfield signing.

Edit: On top of her 'normal football' history, Google shows she was a Phillipines Futsal player in 2025 with 4 goals in 7 appearances. That lends itself to decent foot skills in tight situations. Hasn't scored in club football in 2-3 years playing in Sweden and the US.
