Bundesliga 2 with obvious opening weekend teething in the Friday night game only for a blockbuster Saturday and Sunday batch of games. Highly enjoyable despite the sunny summer atmosphere not really being my thing for football. I look forward to overcast and cooler weather.

German Cup is decent but sometimes I wonder if certain reforms would improve it. You get a cracking draw with Mannheim Kaiserslautern but Frankfurt are mauling lowly St Tönis. It's just reward for winning the regional cup. Regional cups are regularly won by large clubs who've gone down the lower tiers.

Only 4 clubs from the third tier are included. Add all of them excluding U23 reserve teams. I'm not sure if geographically sorting teams in round 1 is good as there's a lot of good travel available.

I'm not the biggest fan of byes either. Given there are fewer league games, perhaps double elimination would be a decent format.
