Alex Robertson started and played 80 minutes for Cardiff City in their 1-1 Championship opening day draw with Wrexham before being subbed off.
Really excited to watch Robbo this season. He always performs well but I think this season could be a career best, and they are a good team in the Championship, he's one step away from the Prem imo.

Also, hope to see him solidify himself in the Socceroos, and more importantly the starting lineup.

Cardiff equalised after he was taken off funnily enough. Let's see how Cardiff go this season, they were only just promoted so it remains to be seen if they are any good. His two best seasons were at L1 level, time to take a step forward.
I am optimistic about him this season as well.

Fascinating to see him playing a deeper more holding midfield role type role too. In many ways this should only increase his case for a Roos spot.

At the moment he is our best technician in the middle of the park and at 23 he should start to motor now.

I mean would it kill them to try a pairing of say Devlin and Robertson against Brazil??

It was good to see Robertson deeper controlling parts of the game. I was surprised at some of his ball wins. He was definitely more positive than other Australian midfielder with passing forward or initiating attacks.
Did they have him playing this deep last season?
If he improves defensively I would expect him to really push for one of the CM positions. Everything else he does is very good.

Yes they did. Hes been played in a dual pivot the last 2 seasons at least maybe 3, which is why i keep getting annoyed when people say hes an AM. Hes the same profile as Luongo. A CM who can drive forward with the ball. Like Luongo, his best position is probably as an 8 in a 1-2 setup (ie 2 8's) but for both us and for his club he will be the more attacking of the 2 DM/CMs. Ppl keep listing him as one of the inside wing options for us just because he was a 10 (which is a different position anyway) as a youth footballer
