Jada Whyman may come back to the Dub in the future but not until she returns to play from her break.Wonder if Jada Whyman will do the same. She’s gotta stop getting injured though.

I wouldn’t say there are ‘ plenty of keepers’, we don’t seem to be developing female keepers in the way we do with the men maybe there is a lack of specific coaches in the women’s game.Teagan Micah has returned to training though and there are plenty of keepers in contention for Matildas callups from either the Dub or Tillies farm system like Courtney Newbon and Ilona Melegh.
There are still enough keepers coming through the Matildas farm system and from the Dub that would be in contention to receive Tillies callups though.I wouldn’t say there are ‘ plenty of keepers’, we don’t seem to be developing female keepers in the way we do with the men maybe there is a lack of specific coaches in the women’s game.
Maybe but I seem to remember that just prior to the Asian Cup starting there was a bit of a panic when Micah was unavailable through concussion injury and Arnold picked up an injury in training. Sally James was rushed into the squad so that tells me that the Matildas are low on contingency plans. There are still enough keepers coming through the Matildas farm system and from the Dub that would be in contention to receive Tillies callups though.
There was a panic when Teagan Micah and Jada Whyman were ruled out prior to the Women's Asian Cup because we'd replaced them with Chloe Lincoln and Morgan Aquino respectively, both of whom are relatively unproven at senior international level and even more so when Mackenzie Arnold sustained an injury in training just hours before opening day of the Matildas' campaign as we would have had to start without her experience between the sticks.Maybe but I seem to remember that just prior to the Asian Cup starting there was a bit of a panic when Micah was unavailable through concussion injury and Arnold picked up an injury in training.
Sally James was never drafted into the Matildas playing list for the Women's Asian Cup though and the only reason why we are lacking contingency plans is because the selection policy is not promoting from the Tillies farm system or giving callups to promising keepers in the Dub.Sally James was rushed into the squad so that tells me that the Matildas are low on contingency plans.
The depth is there but it's not as good as I'd like. I've said it before but I'll say it again: goalkeepers are the position I'm most concerned about for the future. Defenders and midfielders are the least concerning, in fact I can see our defence potentially changing for the World Cup. Forwards are in the middle, I think we've got good wingers and even good strikers but it's unlikely that we'll see another Sam Kerr anytime soon (another Caitlin Foord or Hayley Raso maybe?).Maybe but I seem to remember that just prior to the Asian Cup starting there was a bit of a panic when Micah was unavailable through concussion injury and Arnold picked up an injury in training. The only reason why there is cause for concern in terms of depth within the Matildas keeper stocks is because the selection policy is prioritising keeping Mackenzie Arnold between the sticks instead of calling up promising players from the Dub or even promoting from the Tillies farm system. The depth is there but it's not as good as I'd like. Agree that we have too much depth defensively and we could definitely bring in a new-look backline ahead of the 2027 Women's World Cup getting underway.Defenders and midfielders are the least concerning, in fact I can see our defence potentially changing for the World Cup.
Shelby McMahon definitely could replace Caitlin Foord or Hayley Raso along with Aideen Keane also and possibly Bryleeh Henry but in terms of strikers only Skye Halmarick or Izzy Gomez have the potential to replace Sam Kerr in the Matildas playing list going forward.Forwards are in the middle, I think we've got good wingers and even good strikers but it's unlikely that we'll see another Sam Kerr anytime soon (another Caitlin Foord or Hayley Raso maybe?).
Izzy Gómez isn’t a striker, she’s a midfielder. Anna Rasmussen is who I was thinking of. Dani Galić is quite versatile and can also play striker but midfield is her natural position.Shelby McMahon definitely could replace Caitlin Foord or Hayley Raso along with Aideen Keane also and possibly Bryleeh Henry but in terms of strikers only Skye Halmarick or Izzy Gomez have the potential to replace Sam Kerr in the Matildas playing list going forward.
Annalise Rasmussen also has the potential and Izzy Gomez can play striker as her secondary position in addition to as a midfielder though.Izzy Gómez isn’t a striker, she’s a midfielder. I’m more so talking about the quality of goalkeeping. There’s clearly a gap between the three regulars when fit and the rest. Compare this to the Netherlands for example who’ve got four goalies in their first team playing at high-quality teams (Daniëlle de Jong at Juve, Lize Kop at Spurs, Regina van Eijk at Bayern and Daphne von Domselaar at Arsenal; the latter usually being number one but she’s recovering from an injury)The only reason why there is cause for concern in terms of depth within the Matildas keeper stocks is because the selection policy is prioritising keeping Mackenzie Arnold between the sticks instead of calling up promising players from the Dub or even promoting from the Tillies farm system.
That’s where we have to get to but it will be a long and winding road.I’m more so talking about the quality of goalkeeping. There’s clearly a gap between the three regulars when fit and the rest. Courtney Newbon and Ilona Melegh both have enough quality to eventually make the Matildas playing list in the future though.I’m more so talking about the quality of goalkeeping. The selection policy continuing to prioritise keeping Mackenzie Arnold between the sticks doesn't help either as it doesn't let our promising keepers get valuable game time and experience at international level. That’s where we have to get to but it will be a long and winding road.![]()
