wife says she thinks she is over her fear of flying - have planted the seed of a Eurotrip in 4 years for the World Cup... 🫣
I have flown 100s of times, but still occasionally freak out. Not afraid to admit it.

I have been in situations throughout my life that would probably been considered scary, yet the one thing I have fear over is planes.

It's irrational but also rationale. In the end, you miss out on a lot in life if you don't face it.,

yep, I have done alot flying from way back - do I like it ? no fecking way, dislike it actually.
Sitting in that monster tin can 35thou k's way up there - aircon, your cold, people farting, people leaving toilets in a fecking mess the bastards - delays/time zone changes/early morn or midnight flights.
Sometimes massive turbulence - I had trained myself to sleep - the best way to not know what bloody happens haha
9/14hr flights I can sleep more than half ! my wife dreads it like mad, she can't sleep and she's scared of everything but no fly no OS hols.
I'd wake up and she'd say couldn't believe how bad it was.

Just came back Sat from weird and wonderfulJapan.
Interesting though - was our first organised tour, fly/coach/bullet train etc......
Got to say we discussed we wouldn't have covered so much interesting ground if we did our usual way.
Tokyo/Hakone/Takayama/Kyoto/Hiroshima/Osaka.
Lush countryside, great food but after a while you can't wait to find a decent burger or Italian now and then.
Did a Sake de gustation exxy meal - yer food yum but the sake I don't get the desire, some flavours ok but its the worst kind of grappa/aqua dent I've experienced.

Each city had its positives and negs.
Enjoyed all but I feel Hiroshima hit a cord due to its history.
Did a tour and Museum, very humbling.

I get your wife’s feeling towards flying - I had it lonnnng ago - worse my wife has/had fear like the ol ethnic the sky is falling over anything even before it happens but she has got over it as did I.
We have already talked about the next Cup - being we have Portuguese fam we are going whatever games are held in Portugal.
See you guys there - if you need support just holler happy to help.
My mate and I who went to Canada/USA for all four Aussie games this World Cup have decided that we are definitely going o Spain/Portugal/Morocco in four years time. This time hopefully our wives will come with us as well, neither had any interest in going to the USA this year.

Flying is my favourite. It means I'm going on holiday somewhere. I just sit there for however many hours watching movies while people are contractually obliged to bring me alcohol and work can't bother me. It's a million times better than going to work!

maybe best here as it's cultural. Chuffed of late that I'm getting laughs and giggles out of my Russian and overly slavic hertage female ESL learners of late. God some are a tough nut to crack and I know that their culture doesn't enjoy enthusiasm or that upbeat attitude. Not to say they're not working efficiently their own way.

New challenge. Go to a Russian speed dating event and try to get a laugh out of each one. I bet Germany has a lot of Ukrainian women events given how many are here.

The Hannover London flight of 55min still feels longer than 4 hours across the word somewhere. I guess it's the perception of a long journey while a short one has the expectation of a swift ending.

It’s 250 for an Aussie tourist visa.

That is fucking outrageous

So for a family you’re looking at 1k just to visit.

No wonder we have fuck all tourists here from around the world compared to other countries.

I luv it and still get paid even on hols haha

Where in the world has the dullest, lamest, worst nightlife? Pound for pound of course. Hamelin goes ok but sometimes it's just really low energy.

One o the best pound for pound is Augsburg but maybe 2 late goals from behind to win had something to do with it.

Hmm, good question!

I'm honestly trying to think. I went to Brighton during the day and found it to be the most boring overhyped place I've been in the UK.

Pub hopping in Carlisle is good. Bits and pieces of Glasgow were good but I think the tourism brochure of 2010-15 is what the city is riding on and it wasn't as good as I'd hoped.

Newcastle is dead Sunday to Thursday and then comes alive. There are other cities that are always lively and I don't just mean the big ones.

Wife has a conference in Singapore late October, be rude not to tag along and make a little holiday out of it. Kid hasn’t been overseas yet so a good starting point for her there.

I note with interest that Malaysia’s ACL entrant (JDT) is just a short trip across the border and the playing dates for that comp align with when I’ll be there, praying to the football gods the Jets get drawn an away game there at that time (we are in the same pot but apparently that doesn’t matter 🤷🏼‍♂️).

What’s people thoughts on going to the same places ?

I know some people who never go to the same country but i have been to lots of places 4,5,6 times.

A lot of places have new things each time you go. Different seasons and occasions. Some places never change which is a good and bad thing.

There are of course this retiree travellers who go to the same resort, sit at the same table and reserve the same sun lounge with their towel. That's an issue!

Wow a Qantas safety video with safety at the forefront and not tourism. The lack of focusing on safety has been criticised of late. Perhaps the era of fancy, entertaining demonstrations are over.

Fark you had to bring them up.
Supporting Aussie is dam hard nowadays worse once that lepricorn got hold of their gig.
Such rip off merchants.
Those offshore call lines drove me nuts to sort out a credit the last couple of months - 7 frigging calls I stood my ground justifying my case that I’m led to believe a full refund is coming the typical 7/10 working days.
Domestically lately I’ve flown virgin and Jetstar due to over inflated costs.
Bastards blocked Qatar with the Gov offering routes just wrong wrong wrong.

The rip off culture sucks. Most national carriers of western countries stack up poorly against the ME and SEA airlines. Complacency and greed. KLM, Air France, BA, Lufthansa have their occasional moment but pale in comparison to the big ME 3, Cathay and Singapore.

I've flown BA to the USA and felt it was fairly good. I got a decent fare. Cathay offer excellent competitive value. They're in a bit of a hole still so they need to be cheaper. It's amazing how Singapore, Qatar and Emirates can still beat Qantas and a few others on price and you know you're going to get excellent quality. Etihad have dipped but I've not been to the new AUH terminal.

Yes well summed up.
Mind you having flown Singa lately over rated imo.
Cathay been in the hole for years what they once were but improving.
Can’t beat the ME carriers - Qatar Emirates win win always and I luv their lounges !
Haven’t flown Etihad for a while.
Qantas is ok for me to USA routes suit my travels.
Dam long one Dallas Syd 17hrs but it’s straight route what I prefer.

My trouble locally is costs Melbourne return with just a weeks notice - qantas grab you for nearly 1K !
Costs are back to pre virgin days and that same virgin flight is around 700 !
Jetstar come in around 550.

Hmm, Ill be there for a couple of weeks with the fam during school holidays, but there is no football for those two weeks in either Singapore or Malaysia because of FIFA window... I really wanted a Malaka FC away day :(
