Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Here's an interesting bit of contrasting information:

South, who need only gates of 1500 to break even at their 13,000-capacity Lakeside Stadium, believe they are a model in the self-sustainability.

That contrasts starkly with Melbourne City, who need crowds of 14,000 per game to break even on their AAMI Park deal.

That was from a 2017 SBS article, so not sure of today's figures, but I imagine attendances above 5000 per game would generate around $100k in profit, assuming $25-30 per person between ticket and food/drinks.
I think they need even lower these days

100k profit over 13 home games is 1.3 mill

Add 500k in distribution and an average of 800k a year in transfer fees and a license is worth 2.6 mil a season before sponsorships

If the APL actually had a list of pre-requisites that all current and potential A-League clubs need to meet, I can't imagine a single thing that South Melbourne wouldn't pass. On what criteria could they reject South?
We ve always met the brief or exceeded it.... the reasons we were never in, were not football of finacial based, lets not hide behind our thumbs thinking anything has changed too much... only thing now is they see the edge of the cliff and will possibly try it all to save themselves!

The pushback from certain clubs will show what clout they have in this and i point the finger at 2 specifically... feom that what new demands they may make will be interesting to see.. hopefully with that much legal expetoence on this board they can fonally show them for who they are!

Sydney and Melbourne are Australia's two biggest cities combined they need to provide the bulk of Australian teams as do the NRL n AFL ..

SM is beyond obvious as the next team from Mexico...

In the old NSL days they were the most advanced of the ethical clubs changing to a broader based club... equally they respect a connection to the past...

FFS just let em in...it's f....king beyond obvious

Equally they wanta get in they have an academy, they have overseas connections, they have a history, they have their own stadium, they have a supporter base, they have an established and well run management team...

Just put them in its a no brainer..
Besides that I wants bag them out as the Mariners are a more community team than they are.

A lot of talk out of X by supposed ppl in the npl vic know... (generally those that claim they know somone who knows someone) claiming JA will be our next coach.

My take is that given the timing its either aimed at destabilizing us before our push for trophies (surprise surprise) or just click baiting by the general muppet show!

But if im to weigh in on this as a possibikity, id put it like this: Sinisa wins upcoming trophies he goes nowhere, that simple! JA has 1 1/2 good seasons which were undone by this one! Unless it goes disasterdly wrong, we cant afford to risk time for JA to get things he wants in place and not challenge to defend our championship trophy or blow another ofc!

On the flipside think an AU Cup final run given the favour of the draw should be a minimum expectasion for this team and come what may.. An NPL grandfinal win would need to be a must if we fail in Cup!

Thoughts?

I think the sentiment that he has to win a trophy perhaps isnt far off the mark, to play 50+ games and not end up with a trophy probably wont be viewed favourably.

We dont need to rush, lets see how the rest of the season plays out.

If we make the Australia Cup GF but lose to the A League, that will seemed good enough, IF we perform well in the NPL finals series.

I just hope we avoid Preston in the week one knock out matches.

But there are SO many permutations, that we will not be able to provide a fair assessment until it’s all over

The thing that gets me about this “ITK” information is; I don’t want to say I’m confident but I have a gut feeling we’ll do the treble this season. How the fuck can you sack Sinisa (again) if we do? I am confident in saying the winner of next Wednesday’s game will win the FFA Cup.
