Summer of Cricket thread

Aussies showing they have not played any red ball cricket, let alone Tests for too long. Batters were ordinary now the bowlers are struggling to make a breakthru with Hazlewood lacking rythmn but economical, while Starc is leaking runs.

Lyon is now too slow in the outfield and that dropped catch off Hazlewood showing he is also losing his hand eye co ordination.
I thought Lyon bowled some useful stuff, but my main concern is he isn't going to get any better at age 38. The selectors are letting this team get far too old, all together.

There is only Green under the age of 30, who has a fair bit of Test experience. We are setting ourselves up for the failure that occurred in the mid 80s when Marsh, Lillee and Greg Chappell all retired at the same time. The team suddenly had little experience.

Rather than seeing the articulate Will Pucovski in the commentary box, aged in his 20s, I'd much rather see him batting in Test cricket! He had the complete skill set.

I'd much rather see Jhye Richardson, Corey R/Kuhnemann in the team to slowly blood younger players.

I know the Test Championship points are important, but by the time this Aus team qualifies, if they do, they will be pushing 40 and over!

Ricky Ponting has publicly questioned Pat Cummins’ decision to bat first in the opening Test against Bangladesh in Darwin. The Aussies were bundled out for just 198 after Cummins won the toss and opted to bat.

"The pitch in Darwin looked distinctively green when unveiled on Thursday morning, and many thought it was the perfect opportunity for Cummins to deploy his vaunted bowling attack straight away. Bangladesh were coming off a horrible performance in their tour match in which they were bowled out for just 54."

I asked Pat the same question Ricky. Deshies were ripe for the picking.

This is an interesting Test for Aus.

Apart from Weathers and Slug playing county red ball, most other Aussies aren’t match fit. It is still early season. They have fielded for 100 plus overs in tropical heat.

They will be stiff and sore batting in the second innings.

Final is next year '27 mate. How time flies. Seems to go quicker the older you get.
Only Lyon will be pushing 40 unless he bites the bullet and retires. Starc needs to pull the plug this yr too, Josh and our legend after '27 Ashes.
Sadly, there aren’t players in the age 20 cohort with Test experience to replace them.

Kuhnemann was top wicket taker in Sri Lanka.
Am talking about the A tour DC. If Davis impresses there with ball and bat it may force a CA hand to pick him for the India tour in the New Year. Yet again Kuhn has the Test experience Davies lacks. My view is Davies has the tools to be our long term slow bowling all round option.

Huge pressure on upper order for Aus.
Gonna need to bat like they know how to save this one. Cant let the Deshie bowlers dominate like they did in first inns. Weathers/Head attack once eye is in to set the tone, then the next three slow proceedings to build and build. I dont mind Green going big but he has to pick his moment carefully.
