Argentine Football - Liga Profesional y Seleccion

VAMOS.. what a beast of strike but the keeper was in lala land.. I know its early days but WTF River?

Yeah, it's early days but they have been on the verge of crisis for 3 straight coaches now. Demichellis, Gallardo and now Coudet.

I don't actually understand why tbh. Big teams in Argentina are under enormous pressure to compete in all competitions in what seems like an endless run of cups and seasons. There's literally a 60% turnover of starting line up from each game to the next which seem to be every 3 days like clockwork. They lean on their youths and reserves heavily.

Boca are only just starting to find their feet and the other big clubs have been inconsistent. So under that kind of schedule it's not just River. But now it's been seasons of inconsistency for them. They have the commercial set-up, fanbase and income. They seem to keep making sensible structural changes, spending and hiring and firing but nothing has worked. Now I sense the panic is setting in. Some fans are saying this is the worst River side they have witnessed. Even worse than when they were relegated.

I have to say, I turned off on Argentine club football a few years ago. It just got too hard to get consistent coverage and it was in a bit of a mess. I only found the joy again a couple of years ago. I have seen a noticeable improvement in quality, infrastructure, size of the crowds and competitiveness. Maybe it's a symptom of of a closing gap between the big 2-6 clubs and the rest.

Clausura round 5.

River in deeper water after throwing away a 2-0 lead at home to Velez Sarsfield. Hurts more because the damage was done by former River star Lanzini who begs forgiveness.
