TBH I can't see SMFC coming in. Not because of a lack of ambition on their part but more a desire by the APL for a bigger 'license fee'. Not supporting that outcome - just what I see as likely.

I doubt SMFC are saying - hear take my $20M - 25M - more - you want a side to take you to 14 with Canberra but we'll only pay a token fee.

Like CCMFC - the APL now have a license for sale and will want to grab the dollars.

out of curiosity what's the other boxes we don't tick?

how people quickly forget why the A-league was created, and how our clubs were left to 'die'. I find it amusing how one could still possibly enter the AL (SM Hellas) and that we are still here and still relevant.

i for one hope we never enter the AL this way, unless of course the pyramid opens up.
Plenty of boxe$, Do sydney united have the vi$$ion?

So using the SMFC name through a for profit entity. Though still the large entry fee is problematic - do those directors what to drop that sort of money - because the APL will want it,
politically problematic but apparently not hard financially

selling to the members paying the full 15 mil apl are asking for apparently could be tough. But the price tag I believe is reachable

Surely the APL can’t have that same price tag anymore? Surely no one in their right mind is paying 10+ mill for a license these days?
if you just made it an auction to the highest bidder each you you could probably get more than that

its impressive how much money billionaires are willing to throw away

Foley did and I bet TSG paid pretty well too - though probably less to clear the debts. We are in the era of big money from OS. Weren't V Sports looking at someone a few months ago. Imagine them and Harry Stamoulis and his property development moving the target from Tarneit to Geelong/Armstrong Creek. As long as they can come to some truce / arrangement with the Cats that makes it a shared pride in the region rather than let's kill the intruder.

Kardinia gets a extra tenant while the boutique 10000-15000 stadium is built. Combination of blue and teal for the Geelong Waves in a nod to both Geelong and the Surf Coast. Throw in a discounted addon to Cats membership for season memberships.

Maverick sports paid barely anything for jetties

So market value!! ;)

Maybe you're right but I think the APL operate differently depending on the ability to pay. So given the choice between a relaunched regional bid at Geelong with big backers like Stamoulis or SMFC who I would think see themselves as an option for the APL to come begging for and only paying a small fee I think the APL goes for the money.

Of course Harry may return to SMFC
but then the APL would be after the larger amount as well. It become a pure vanity exercise for Stamoulis with little opportunity for his property plays.

I was referring to people not wanting or being enticed to football due to ethnic based drama. That's not to say misbehaviour at the A League isn't a deterrent either. An outsider wants no bar of Greece vs North Macedonia fighting (uncommon I'm sure) nor Sydney FC and Victory clowns throwing bar stools in and out of a pub.
You nailed it. It’s uncommon. It’d be like banning Indian restaurants because occasionally someone gets Delhi belly.
If it’s uncommon, let the 99.9% of fans enjoy the rivalries, the colour, the chants, the joy and the anger of different international cultures mixing with skips to enjoy the beautiful game.
Why is football - the world game - the only place in Australia where a club can be banned from entering a competition solely because of the ancestry and culture of its members?
