Sign Up Now!Imagine knowing so little that you’d call Club Marconi and The Lion (Richlands) “little tinpot ethnic social clubs”.What does clubs based on monocultural ethnic identity bring the game in this country two parts of sweet fuck all.
Bitter old cunts like you don't want what's best for the game in this country, you just want your little tinpot ethnic social club back in and you sit there scratching your nuts wondering why no one bothers.
It's not the 1980's anymore, the game has moved on from those clubs, time you moved into the 21st century.
I agree, it’s clearly not working. The MLS keeps expanding but they don’t have more than one team per city except in LA and NY (and even then only one team plays in NYC proper). The NWSL only has one team per city and is also expanding. The CPL and NSL are the same.Expansion does not work beyond two teams per city. That was the problem with Western United (we are pretending to be West Melbourne) and Campbelltown. Meanwhile Geelong and Wollongong - different cities were ignored.
TBH I think the only way to go to a third side in a city is through P & R. i.e. if South Melbourne came in via promotion they bring their supporters with them and we're not looking to a slice a finite pie into smaller pieces.
How are Macarthur surviving? Or are they not?I agree, it’s clearly not working. Realistically it should be one team per city (except for Melbourne and Sydney with two each) and then pro/rel for anything more. If Western United are to make a comeback it should be in Geelong.
Good question. Like Western I can unfortunately see them eventually folding, even if they stick around for a while (like Western did, or even longer than they did). That being said there's always rumours that fly around at the end of every season that they're folding, including a rumour last season that they had already handed in their licence (which appears to not be true). They still don't have a women's team (outside the NPLW) either. How are Macarthur surviving? Or are they not?
OK, fair enough. But let's suppose, for arguments sake, that 3 each could survive in the AL in Melbourne and Sydney. And if all the financial problems be solved with the wave of a wand, then I'd go with a 16-10 model. 16 clubs x 2 in the AL with a finals series, 10 clubs Ă— 4 in the NSD with pro/rel playoffs between the leagues at seasons end. So 26 clubs required. 3 Sydney, 3 Melbourne, 2 Adelaide, 2 Brisbane, 2 Auckland, 1 each Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Gosford, Canberra, Wollongong, Hobart, Wellington, Christchurch. 5 more required to go from NPL into NSD. 2 Perth Clubs into Indonesia (expanded to 20 first season with 4 relegated, 2 promoted. Darwin into Singapore ( Darwin Cubs withdraw from Singaore because of financials). For me, that would be ideal. Unfortunately, I can't see any way to realise the dream (or some people's nightmare, lol).Good question. I kinda get what you’re saying but realistically 26 clubs is too much (the Prem only has 20) and I don’t think we can get teams from Indo or S’pore. They’ve got their own leagues and pyramids. The reason NZ, PNG and Pacific countries work is because there’s no pro league there (other than the OPL).OK, fair enough. I get that but England has 4 divisions and 92 clubs if my quick maths is correct. Anyway, I basically agree with you that it's not going to happen.I kinda get what you’re saying but realistically 26 clubs is too much (the Prem only has 20) and I don’t think we can get teams from Indo or S’pore. Yes they have. I think they deserve at least one if not two teams.New Caledonia, if things have settled there.
Oh you mean 26 across two divisions? 13 per league? That would work.I get that but England has 4 divisions and 92 clubs if my quick maths is correct. Anyway, I basically agree with you that it's not going to happen.
Whats your timeframe for all these?- Add in Sunshine Coast for the 2028/2029 season
- Strike an agreement with Melbourne City to move to a permanent new home in Dandenong - This is an absolute must.
- Make moves to get a group from Wollongong together to buy the Macarthur licence
- Get a proper Western Melbourne group together and start building a stadium in Geelong or Werribee. Werribee will be a large urban area inside 10 years
- Build a 15k stadium in Brisbane for the Roar
- Bring Canberra in

Good on South for winning some of FIFA’s lucre. It’s crazy that the amount is still not known!Doesn't make financial sense for South Melbourne FC to play in the A League. We make serious money from competing in the OFC Pro League with travel/accommodation costs covered by State/Federal Governments. There is no prize money in winning the A League, whilst South is rumoured to have won at least $150,000 USD from finishing runners up in the OFC Pro League.
At the end of the day, it always comes down to money.
Those who chant that dont wanna be in it. What the club wants and want a portion of the supporters want arent always alligned.well that didnt take long did it.
will they still chant, "you can stick your A-league up your ass"?

My theory is they've seen the absolute shitshow of the last few weeks and are now desperate to get out of the npl bubble.
