General A Leagues thread (Men and Women) 2026/27 season

Well 50 isn't bad considering our players move the second a transfer comes in or the fact the coaches swap clubs like their square dancing or all the other admin failings

thats pretty much for every single league not uncommon.....
50 eh, pretty much aligns where our NT ranking lies - quoting Strongest sure isn't true to leagues below 20 imo.
I see a great list of leagues our developing players/player managers should be trying to break through amongst Top30.
 
If we look at that list, there are only 4 leagues from AFC nations.
Japan J1 (14), Sth Korea, K1 (31), Saudi (42) and Australia AL (50).
That's actually not bad all things considered.
We have no money. We have no plan. We don't have a proper pyramid. We don't even have a proper 2nd div. We don't have a proper transfer/loans economy. We have clubs that die and others that struggle to find buyers. Attendance is not very good. Ratings are not very good.
Now imagine how good we could rank if we actually put the work in.

yep been the same tune for 20yrs from my perspective yet others see otherwise, you shake your head and wonder.
Utter mess.
Least we rank somewhere :)
 
Where do I start….

League starting over the egg ball codes have finished, short season, salary cap conditions, no transfer system, limited loan system, no pro-rel conditions.
Not enough or no money, no stadium infrastructure, biased media, divided sporting community I.e euro snobs and people who hate the aleague and NPL circles.


So 50 or around that is where we are at right now, being an export league is ok too given will not have the leverage to keep our best players for any longer that we could especially with the temptation of Europe and now the MLS becoming more attractive destinations.
OR bring in players to our shores given the money and prestige is also overseas.

Like as others said this league needs to sort out its issues if it wants to go up the list, but otherwise it’s where we realistically sit.

The ranking reflects that I think. You've explained why its dire. Maybe we should be shitter?

So I have taken a closer look at the rankings table.

We are slightly worser but similar to league 1 in England, Ligue 2 in France and Serie B in Italy seem a little step up from us along with the Scottish premier league but not a huge jump.

But we seem to be slightly better than the Portuguese second division and along with the Serbian Super Liga, oddly enough the UAE, Qatar and the Chinese Super League are worser than us.

Its an interesting table given how difficult is to compare leagues, plenty dialogue for debate lol! :D

For some context, this is the criteria for the ranking
Core Evaluation Criteria
— Individual Team Ratings: Every club is scored on a 0-100 scale based on advanced data metrics relative to the world's highest-rated team.
— League Average Rating: The mean ability score of all participating domestic clubs in a single league.
— Top Club Performance Averages: Focuses on the collective strength of a division's elite by averaging the rating of its top 5 and top 10 clubs.

I think this might be a rare instance in which having such a small league with a salary cap has helped with our averages. Many leagues, (especially the top ones), will have a hand full of big clubs at the top, then a bit of a big gap then a bunch of mediocre and poor clubs. The A-League on the other hand just has a bunch of mediocre clubs.

If your goalkeeper is also captain, and your pre-nominated player is already off the pitch, what then? Do the refs then need an ordered list of players to remove?

And the five seconds rule in throw ins is pointless if the count only starts once the player has the ball. Just make it a flat eight seconds from when the ball goes out.

NPL clubs have been ripping the government, family's etc off for years so why is it no different when a ALM club does it. Its not like the APL are giving them the money they need to survive. ALM/W are on struggle street and a dole cheque will only get you so far. Good on the Bulls for finding ways to get funding into there system.

the owner of Outback Steakhouse is Mark Ivancic, who is also the president of Sydney United and a silent partner / stakeholder of Macarthur.

If he is involved, then nothing is above water.
