Australian transfers 26-27 Summer

I remember the Chris Ikonomidis hype back awhile ago. Was supposed to be the next big thing. I’m pretty sure a lot of people on the old 442 Forums learnt that youth team performance means nothing until you can match it with the men.
Exactly right. We get all these next Harry Kewell youth team players but until you're really hitting the straps you're not much.

Irankunda scores at a world cup at such a young age.

Vietnam the better cultural experience while UAE offers a tad better football level. Barely...

Either way that's his national team career done.

Going from winning a Europa League final to a ridiculous Serie A move and the Holland hopping.

Talks the talk but I'd rather give guys like Priestman or Drew a go before resorting back to this predictable lazy player.

At least Ajdin Hrustic managed to play for the Socceroos during our World Cup campaign before subsequently making the move to the UAE and killing his international career in the process.
In hindsight he shouldn't have. Robertson and others should've been ahead of him. He's an absolute confidence trickster.

The Saudi home game was an indicator yet Popovic persisted on his importance.

I know you’re going off ELO but do you reckon they’re better than a team like Atleti, Juve, Liverpool, Marseille, Milan, PSV, Roma or Villa? There’s at least two in there I’d put them above but I definitely don’t think they’re better than Liverpool or Villa.
LPool and Villa are ranked higher than them (i didnt list every single club for brevity and simply meant the the real big boys). But roma, Marseille, Juve, PSV Athleti are all below them, in Athleti's case only just.

Answering your question though id personally place Sporting as above all those currently other than Athleti who yes id concede would be a small step up. Case in point Sportings arguably best player Holjmund just went there for a huge sum.

Different position. Robertson is an 8, 6 and 10 in that order, not a winger or inside winger.

I agree though that any of Kuol, Chipperfield, Segecic (before he defected), Sapsford, Younis or Bennie should have been picked over him

He went to Serie B not A.

Tbf to Hrustic, he destroyed his ankle at Frankfurt, then moved to Salernitana where he requested time off for surgery but wasnt granted it yet banished to the reserves.

Has recovered now but is not the same player anymore since 2022. Watching him at the world cup he regressed physically a lot since when i saw him live in the play off against Peru. That day he covered every inch of grass and a kind of wiry strength over the ball. Looks slow and weak now in comparison.

It's not about position rather the spot in the squad at all. Hrustic can play in any of those roles too yet Robertson just had to go because having him on is an xfactor.

He went to Hellas Verona in Serie A. A 4 year deal. His injury was bad luck and the treatment by the club was a joke. He said he was isolated. Stupid Italian clubs and their player hoarding. Players there should just break ranks and spread across the continent but some are content with easy money and playing much less.

Hrustic was great against Peru. His injury at the 2022 world cup saw lame performances and his attitude sucked.

In hindsight Italy was a death sentence and then he clawed his way back with a bit of Serie B and Dutch football. He shouldn't have gone to the last world cup and was the same big mouth rather than actually delivering.

I've been hoping to see some transfers/loans out of Dutch Erste Divisie. In particular, finally a sensible transfer by Nisbet. I was hoping his agent might generate interest from a J-League club. Surely Balard can get a move to a stronger league than Erste. Bozinovski is more difficult but would be happy if he got a good loan deal. However, probably staying with Heracles for the time being, I'd imagine.

Yes ppl are saying its a big move, but i dont think most realise just how big a deal it is... A lot of comments are that its stepping stone to epl, development etc .. its the 11th best club in europe currently, so theres no stepping stone about it unless Nestor then goes onto a City, ManU, Arsenal, PSG, Bayern, Barca, Real, Inter etc. Sporting are just below them currently.

Id only rank the following moves above this in terms of most monumental in Aussie football ..

Okon to Lazio 96
Kewell to Liverpool 03
Bosnich to Man U 99
Viduka to Leeds 00
Bresch to Parma 02
1981, Craig Johnston to Liverpool who were the European Cup holders.

This delay in Irankunda's move has me concerned.
Nestory Irankunda getting transferred away from Watford should be close though especially given that they've started bolstering their playing list in the forward line which should in theory mean they're anticipating him leaving the side sooner or later.
