A costly loss from Netherlands to drop from 6th to 17th after the Moroccan loss.

Japan are ranked one above us, after playing us off the park, but drawing and losing in the last two matches against Aus in the Asian WCQs.

This is just final finishing places from the world cup, not over all fifa rankings. Canada 14th over all would be hilarious.

Japan are still the number one team in Asia at the conclusion of the World Cup, with South Korea, Jordan and Uzbekistan dropping seven and ten ranking places respectively following a disastrous campaign in the case of the former and courageous efforts on debut but ultimately falling well short against powerhouse nations for the latter two.

Wrong (again), these are not the FIFA world rankings.

Top 25 and ongoing qualification is the KPI according to the FFA. I agree on the point, Decentric, that it flatters us. But as a metric, the FFA will be happy. The question is, should they be? Bonuses will be paid and the Board can hide behind the KPI but the game is still a rabble and our performances at this World Cup, Turkey notwithstanding, were awful.

I don't wanna be an all whinge, no solutions guy. So, on top of those KPI's maybe there's a need for something more qualitative. Like, improvements on our performance according to FIFA's technical rankings or fan engagement and satisfaction.

Agree with most of your post, Puncha, but not that we are a rabble.

When I was involved in FFA for 6 years finishing in 2014, it was a pretty professional org. Baan, Berger and Abrams were globally renowned Tech Dirs in the then FFA Tech Depts.

I’m a bit worried about the drop in calibre of Tech Dirs since.

I see.

Having looked at the FIFA ranking we are
28 - down one spot since the WC.
Interestingly you can view our historical ranking from '92 to date.
'92 we were ranked 45 originally by '96 50th.
The graph is fascinating viewing.
USA 16th.
Turkiye 27.
Paraguay 34.

After Italy have failed 3 times in a row for WC qualification, how can FIFA rank them 15?

Norway beat them in the UEFA group stage. Then made the last 8 in the WC. How can Norway be ranked below Italy?

Brazil at 5 doesn’t seem right?

I checked their WCQ campaign in South America. They drew and lost plenty of games.

They beat Japan in knock our round of 32, but then I think Norway eliminated them in round of 16 in the WC.
