Typical eh - he is no more mature than last year or before.
The only change is picking aside that before he was dirt to many of you.
Shallow is shallow the way I see it and I’ll call it out to remind those who before treated him with dustain.
 
Bit of a thread derailer but I'd suggest that admitting you were wrong or otherwise changing your mind about something is one of the best things you can do for your own personal growth.

I changed my mind about Okon-E and O'Neill during the WC - both did far better than I expected (based on my previous observation of them).

Similarly I changed my mind on Pat Beach. I didn’t think he was quite Socceroos level yet but he clearly is.

I didn't - always rated O'Neill and still not happy with Okon-E in the role he played. His defence and ball security are not his best weapons, creativity is - if picked in Popovics system he is one of the front two in the box midfield. There I would have no problem picking him.

Good to read this from you because I've had stats that confirm O'Neill is the best 1v1 ball winner in front of the defensive line, and equal with McGree at making intercepts and causing turnovers.

Moreover, his free kick from a set piece resulted in the goal against Egypt.

Also, Okon Jr has made really fast recent progress. His stats improve all the time. I'm worried he will disappear in German Bundi football though. It might be too big a step.

It might have been you, Mr C, but someone asked me what concerned me about Volpato's game sense?

Initially he tried to dribble or ball carry forwards as soon as he received the ball - even if he was blind to opposition in close proximity. Ideally, his teammates should shout " Man On" if closely marked, and blind, or shout 'Turn' if unmarked in sufficient time and space. Volpato doesn't scan enough over his shoulder, without the ball, to observe where the opposition is, whilst not having the ball at his feet..

Even over the few games, he improved a little. I'd like someone to fill me in, but from what someone said on here 2 star players were usually keeping him out of the starting eleven at his club? Volpato looks to me like he hasnt played a lot of football, even when he has it is a very high level compa red to most Aussies. He must have played reserves though - with no spectators.

The positive I see in Volpato, is he is a good dribbler and ball carrier. What showed up in the latter rounds, is Metcalfe couldn't beat players. Ditto, Villupillay, Mabil or Behich. Prior to Volpato's Roo commitment, only Bos or Irank were doing this in our attacking third. Hrustic is capable too, but not enough happens in between the spells when Hrusutic has the ball at his feet.

Maybe Italiano's ball carrying at speed was in the mix too? If we have Bos, Irank and Volpato on the pitch at the same time, even McGree, we have more weapons in attacking 1v1 actions on the deck.

I'm absolutely delighted Volpato has committed to the Roos. We need a player with his skill set. ATM I think he needs to play more football instead of being a sub in Serie A.

Not Serie B though, but English Champ, Eredivisie, Belgium, Swiss league, Portugal ( they don't like Aussies), Turkey, J League, MLS,.

Another option is AL, with a team playing ACL football. This provides 8-12 extra tough match play group and knockout games per season to add to the 26 AL games.

Coming back and attending NPL/AusCup games. Being visible. Doing some cross code promotion. This is what the Roos need to be doing to become household names. Volps is the future. Also he’s becoming so mainstream even his sisters socials are making their way into feeds. Brilliant.
