Having watched just the first part (since I’m time-limited tonight), I’m surprised that he wasn’t fluent in Italian till he went to Italy given his background is 100% Italian. I suppose a lot of Italian immigrants spoke various regional languages and never taught their kids Italian though. It would be interesting to know his parents’ regional backgrounds (e.g. Neapolitan, Sardinian, Sicilian, etc).
