FIFA WC 26 - Other Nations LIVE Match Thread ⚽

Credit to Spain they were outstanding they not only controlled the game but also stifled France's front 4 which is a hard task in itself, they played a 10/10 match.

I love Spain's football philosophy they value technique and intelligence and play a certain way, they don't need superstars to win outright although they got some very good players their team model is the reason why they have chances to go deep in tournaments.

For France you would feel disappointed but they were stopped by a very good team today, maybe they were a bit cautious but this was always going to be hard match to win it came down to moments which Spain took.

Two of the most dominant nations in world football. In the women’s game they’re clearly the best two teams in the world. Obviously the best team in the world changes each cycle, like I doubt Spain will win three World Cups in a row.

Spain do have the chance to complete an international double though. They don’t have the Nations League so no treble but it’s still a pretty big achievement. Argentina could also do the same thing, and if you count the qualifying tournament (which is basically a league given it’s home and away) they could technically win a treble.
 
Interesting that for years Deschamps got criticised for being too cautious and not playing all his attacking weapons. So at his last tournament he finally plays all his great attackers together and it works until he comes up against a top midfield. Then the limitations of the team surface as they get outplayed in the middle of the park and the French attackers do not get enough of the ball. There is a lesson in that.

This match would have looked different if France played another midfielder in place of Barcola. Whether it would have changed the final outcome who really knows.
 
As a Villa fan, very happy to see Morgan Rogers in the England line up. With Jed Spence on in at left back, and Reece James at right back, Gordon and Rogers on left and right wings respectively, this looks like the strongest line up Tuchel has put out so far in this World Cup.
 
In an echo of history, Scaloni has picked a Simeone in his line up, and kitted the team out in the dark blue Argentina wore when they beat England in quarter final in 1986

Thomas Tuchel would naturally be fielding his strongest starting lineup in a match where Lionel Messi is facing the Three Lions for the first time in his career.
