Future World Cup hosting nations

With extended teams in tournaments, not many countries would be able to host. Oceania is really due based on the rotation cycle, but I think we all know that it is usually about who has the heavier brown envelope.

If we want 2038, we need to start working with AFL and NRL to get on side because it would be right in the middle of their seasons.

Which, let's be real - it's AFL. NRL tends to work with us in general.

I'd avoid the AFL and let the Premiers fight the battles. Let the Home Nations and Ireland take 2038 - we take 2042. We offer 16 stadiums not including Perth, Victoria Park, MCG or Marvel but including an expanded MRS with Indonesia and NZ.

The premiers will complain about their states being ignored or short changed. The WA Premier can work with the two AFL clubs and ensure interstate trips and byes and maybe a couple of games at Bunbury and a small compensation package.

The Qld Premier can do similar and even use the Gold Coast venue while relinquishing Victoria Park to go with Lang Park. The MCG while it is ok for one-off marches it has been told it is too large (sight lines for a world cup) and the AFL own Marvel so forget that.

The NRL have plenty of suburban grounds to play on but may want to play the SOO at another time or utilise Adelaide Oval, the MCG and maybe Las Vegas.

So after the 2 premiers have a whinge we get Perth and Victoria Park and Melbourne stays with an expanded MRS. Only major new builds are an Adelaide and Canberra stadium - both tailored to 30000 with foundations ready for expansion with temp stands to meet minimum numbers and the expansion of the MRS.

By 2042 the first of our HSR is hopefully built and more of the Indonesia HSR is built.

I think Skilled Park is too small for a World Cup. We would need to upgrade a few of our stadiums. It's a bit disappointing that when we build new stadiums, they all tend to be round for AFL or cricket. Our Football leaders need to be a bit stronger at pushing for stadia in this country.

MCG and Adelaide Oval are not FIFA compliant for a World Cup

I would go with this 14 initially

All existing (6)
Lang Park,
Sydney Football Stadium,
Stadium Australia,
Jakarta International Stadium,
Gelora Bung Karno Stadium,
Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium

Major upgrade (2)
Expand MRS to 50000
Eden Park host Eden Park 2.1 already planned

New stadiums (2) with temp stands

Bruce stadium needs replacing and Adelaide needs a mid size stadium. Build them at 32,000 - 35,000 with foundations support 50,000

Temp Stands (1)
Newcastle International Stadium would need temp stands at either end

Non Australian Upgrades and Temp stands (3)
Wellington would need temp stands
Sukarto City and Bali would need upgrades

Then go back to the premiers as I said above bring in Victoria Park and Perth. That would take it to 16 but you would probably lose Wellington and Sukarto City and keep it at 14.

No heat problems, good public transport, around 6.4m tickets with over 3.7m in Australia - what's' not to like.

Only way I'd 'welcome' more teams, if it was global qualifying.

Infangulo friendlies and the Nations Leagues (unless it's a worldwide one - akin to the 'Groups' in Davis Cup tennis)
 
You can get away with 14 stadiums for 48. 64 you need 16. Interesting that Saudi Arabia have said 15. They will have 8 for the Asian Cup. Will almost certainly cancel the one in the sky. That leaves them having to hit 6 out of 6 to get the minimum for a 48 team World Cup. They already are looking at possibly cutting other stadiums. Certainly 16 would be a huge stretch.
