Interesting to see the view from the Volpato shot on 5min. The ball was off the ground when he hit it affecting the trajectory.

Irankunda was actually quite free with Behich also running on. A small nudge to Irankunda would've been interesting too.

In 85 Hrustic stupidly tried to shoot when Metcalfe made a good run in support. We have to pass the ball when the chance lights up but also shoot when it looks possible.

Definitely not on your own. I used to be a fan but I thought he offered absolutely zero when he came on in the world cup. The side was noticeably more impotent in attack whenever he replaced Volpato. Our depth off the bench was very lacking. I'd be happy if we moved on from him altogether. I don't think he is needed at all. Remarkable too that he didn't put up his hand for a penalty.

The guy is all talk and we risked one final chance and he still was ineffective. He was alright against Paraguay but the lack of urgency in his play slows is down even more.

I don't think that's true for the Paraguay game. Hrustic came on and kept the channel working well.

There were a few moments against Egypt where Volapto was stupid on the ball and lost it. One was another stupid attempt at a heel flick and it went to no one when a standard touch would've sufficed. In the second half a simple ball from Souttar was overtouched with his trying a fancy first touch turn.

Volpato needs to get back to basics in simple moments and Hrustic needs to be moved on.

I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt but imagine having Silvera instead of Trewin and also Younis in ET.

Silvera was coming off injury. I suspect he wasn't fit and RWB is an awkward spot for him. I think he's a LWB option for Jordy. Borges-Rodrigues would have been interesting at RWB.

I wanted to see Bennie late at RF running at defenders, going wide or central. Sapsford was a RF in a front 3 for Dundee and offered something different too. Including goal scoring form. I was disappointed neither were selected.

I think Younis will have his time but it was too soon. It's a big leap from AL and he'd only strung together half a season of football and form.
 
Watched the final 30 and ET against Egypt. Talk about both teams being vulnerable in certain moments.

Wrong selections, positioning and subs. Trewin good in defence and movement but can't pass.

Souttar's 90th min inward header nearly gets hit by Toure. Could've won it there. Toure just too casual. Beach overhit one or two long counters for Toure.

Interestingly Herrington was outjumped for the header resulting in the great Beach save.

As others will attest I'm usually supportive of most players Popa has selected.

However, Hrustic, and recently Boyle who was dropped, just haven't accrued enough positive data from the stats I've compiled in replays, to justify their positions in the team.

That a decent defender, Rowles, couldn't make the WC squad, whilst Hrustic could, shows we have a lot more depth in defence than in attack. If McGree had been available, I don't think Hrustic would have made the squad.

I thought Aus was on top in the second half, but Egypt was better in ET from looking at the replay.

Still we were more competitive than the other WC games in knock out rounds, Italy in 2006 and Argentina in 2022.

The lack of depth not being able to replace injured players , McGree attacking mid/ forward and Italiano at RWB, cost us - as Bos was needed on the left flank. Plus we couldn't replace Bos with similar quality.

Also, our lack of central striking depth was a problem.

Also, at this higher level, Behich and Metcalfe weren't quite good enough. Ditto Trewin playing Right WB out of position.

Definitely not on your own, HG.

From previous games before the WC and during the WC, I think Hrustic was our worst player who went to the WC. Although Leckie is also a shadow of his former self.

In one Roo game I thought Silvera struggled at RWB, but was good in the few games I saw him playing as a forward.

A decent technician too. Not sure of what his English Champ career is doing ATM?

Silvera was released by Boro and got picked up by MK Dons in League One.

That was the one where Hrustic was in front of him and did nothing defensively at all.
