A-League transfer news/rumours

That’s a nice list of goalkeepers, not all of them are born on the central coast or even NSW born though.

You can debate it all you want but its not even close. like I said SA produces the best GK’s and they all come through one club…………………..

South Australian born In no particular order:, beltrame, bajic, margush, izzo, gauci, steve hall, cox, richards (transitioned into MMA), ochsenham, page

Interstate keepers that improved when they came to Adelaide: birighitti, cook, galekovic, delianov
The same Mark Birighitti that conceded 23 goals in 4 appearances for Dundee United, including 9 V C#$%^c and 7 v AZ Alkmaar, that one ?

Oscar Page is there and should be given a run as brissys #1.

AU were quite upset to lose him as he was the schoolboy’s keeper of the year, but good on page for taking a chance and moving interstate (he would’ve been 4th choice had he stayed)

He’s grown in height (6’2”) if he can work on distribution a bit more and command his box, Page definitely could be European bound in a couple years.

As I always say, South Australia has produced the best GK’s since the inception of the a league!
Last preseason when he joined I’d agree with you that page was the likely option to come out of the NPL side but it seems like he has fallen behind the recent youth international in Plusnin.

Personally I am not a fan of Bouzanis who is way too heavy on his feet when moving around the box for this old school former keeper so it will be a interesting to see which youngsters emerges from the pack to challenge.

So both those young keepers signed scholarships. My understanding is that you need two keepers on full contracts in the squad so that means you’ll be signing another keeper

that would be the same birighitti, who knows how his career would've gone if adelaide didnt have so much depth in that position when he was at the club.

he seems to have become mistake laden as hes aged, which in unusual as GK's normally tend to have those jitters in there 20's not early to mid 30's

Secret Scout will be able to confirm the squad requirement given his roles with AUFC and other A-league sides over the years.

My understanding of a scholarship deal is that the player is paid whatever the minimum wage is for that age per the EBA (50-60k etc)and it isn't included to the cap which is different to the older system of basically getting a can of coke and sausage roll to train with the A-league squad.

If my understanding is correct, I'd question needing 2 keepers on proper money and another 2 on minimum wage for a club that cry's poor so much that doesn't seem a wise use of resources let alone signing a 40 year old visa keeper, which would again be a weird use of a visa spot given the other gap holes our squad has.

If you are correct, what's more likely i'd say is whoever wins the 2nd choice spot this offseason will be upgraded to a full contract on slightly more than minimum wage they were receiving .

Did Adelaide get a big transfer fee
Adelaide United transferred Yaya Dukuly to NK Celje for an undisclosed fee but we'd expect them to get a sizeable amount of coin given his potential and the fact that he is still fairly young and close to being in the prime of his career.

Kristian Popovic is headed to Central Coast Mariners after being culled by Macarthur ahead of A-League Men season 2026-27 getting underway, but it's not known how long he'll be under contract at the side for.

ffs the recycle churn in the A League of so so players going nowhere in the A League is ridiculous

Would’ve been in the final year of his contract so I doubt it

So why do we need the a league then we might as well just send all our players to Europe
Not all the players in the A-League Men and Dub have the potential to make it in Europe though so we still need the A-Leagues so that they can get consistent game time which benefits them in terms of their development as players otherwise they'll be playing in Member Federation comps instead which would arguably be more detrimental for them.

So we just watch the churros that can't cut it in Europe? Lucky us
