Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

You walked away for 8 years, mmmmmmm.
Yeah pretty much. When the NSL was killed off I was busy getting married, renovating a house, having kids... Tried going to the VPL a few times back then, was at the very first match in 2006 against Heidelberg along with a crowd of 11k but a few months later the crowds were terrible..

One thing led to another and I didn't watch any live SENIOR football (apart from a couple of Socceroos matches and 2 ill fated attempts to watch an Aleague match). I still followed the results but just sort of stepped away as I focused on work and young family.

Started going back to a few home games in 2012-13 and got hooked again when NPL started.. Dont miss many matches these days home or away.

If you are questioning my loyalty pal, you're barking up the wrong tree, I bleed blue and white.

The events of last week sucked the energy out of me. Im just not fussed about tonight. I'd be nervous if we were close to the bottom 3 but our run home is so difficult i dont see a way into the top 6.

Our 2 short term objectives should be 1) dont get embarassed at home by Preston 2) Beat Adelaide.

I dont think its as difficult as you say to climb into top 6... whether we do something once there is a different matter altogether.

Our run home is something like dandy city, preston, oakleigh, st albans, melb city, bergers and george cross.

I see maybe 2 wins the rest of the way if we lose tonight.

Preston have the easiest run home. Lakeside is their final away game.

Bergers, Georgies and Melbourne City will all need to take points off each other and we still get a crack at both Gerogies and Melbourne City. Bergers also still have to play Avondale and Hume... its not easy but a result tonight may be a lifeline.

I think we would have to win tonight to stay alive. Not even a draw helps us.

Those altona and gully loses are so horrible to look back on.

Agreed... Just an absolute, self inflicted, disaster. All we can do is hope the new recruits bring a change of fortune. Im impressed with Yoo so far and think, once he develops a rhythm with Yuki, they will be a great combo. I also think Juach and Swibel can form a complimentary strike pair although I think if it was Juach and Bonada up top we would have been almost supernatural. Retre HAS to be a stabilising force surely? I briefly chatted to him on Sunday and he is nice guy.

Highly jittery about tonights match!

Tonight is nothing short of must win. I'm actually relatively calm about tonight's match. We'll either pinch a win or get smashed. Can't see this ending in a draw.

Like I've said previously, we need more time for the new signings to gel. Juach is highly unlikley to play tonight given he arrived this week. His biggest challenge is recovering from jet lag. Retre's last official match was in late April, so he'll need another week or two just to get up to the required fitness levels to play a full 90 minutes. Ideally, what we need is Ramazani to start at Centre Back, and Giannakopoulos to return to his midfield role next to Pasquali.

A probable Starting XI tonight is:
Charlston
Lampard
Jankovic
Ramazani
Painter-Andrews
Pasquali
Giannakopoulos
Uchida
Yoo
Mikkola
Swibel

Cocks, Retre, and hopefully Juach on the bench.

That team can defeat Dandenong City. We just need to get the midfield set up correct. The midfield and defence need to protect Charlston. Dandenong City players will be testing him out early on.

It is so bloody annoying that we dropped 6 points to those bang average teams especially at home. I mean we beat both of them away with hardly any senior players earlier in the season !

Keep the faith brother. Its been a crazy few weeks at Hellas. Let's hope we can win tonight and get some positivity back around the club.
This too shall pass...... In 6 months time well be talking about how we go about doing a 3-peat for the Australian Championship and how the hell we are going to manage playing in two overseas tournaments at once and still defend our NPL crown

Ok, we'll leave it at that then.

This is how the ladder looks as of today. Oakleigh, Hume City and Avondale will play finals.

Essentially 5 teams are battling for 3 spots. We play those other 4 teams over the next 7 remaining weeks. Its a tough run home, but if you look at it from the flip side, wins against these teams will mean you finish in the top 6.

Key fixtures over the next 7 rounds:
*Heidelberg have to play Hellas, Melbourne City Youth, CS George Cross, and Avondale.
* CS George Cross have to play Hellas, Melbourne City Youth, Heidelberg, Hume City and Avondale.
* Melbourne City Youth have to play Hellas, Heidelberg, CS George Cross, Hume City and Avondale.
* Preston has the easiest run with only facing Hellas, Melbourne City Youth and Hume City.

Preston likely to finish either 3rd or 4th. We don't need to finish 4th, as we just need to finish at least 6th. Anything can happen from there. Everyone is playing against each other. Teams will drop points. Its just comes down to who drops the least amount of points.
