FIFA 2026 WC - general

While he deserves everything he gets, he scorn heaped on the "orange dildo four time bankrupt" is unwarranted in this instance. We know what americans and the political cadres are like, so it is no surprise, yet gianni infangulo can fuck right off.

Ive seen some snivelling limp dicks in my life but infangulo sure has everyone of them beat.

FIFA is a sick patient but surely there are some within football who'd be interested in cleaning the place up?

The case was initially started by US Soccer and their executives and lawyers. What would've been interesting is to see whether the appeal would've succeeded without the political involvement.

To say the this is simply out of a political corner is wrong. Politics shouldn't have got involved but the case hardly interested anyone when US Soccer instigated it as soon as the full time whistle blew.

I'm reading they had a lot of lawyers circling and that FIFA didn't really want to have to go through all of that so just cut Balogun loose.
Red cards at the World Cup cannot be appealed. There was never any appeal.

By appeal I take it you mean rescinded? The red card applicability has been suspended. That was the main goal of US Soccer to ensure Balogun got to play.

US Soccer had no right of appeal. Red cards cannot be appealed at the World Cup. This was clearly a political gift to Trump.

Saudi 2034 says "hold my camel meat".
Argentina 1978 comes to mind. Apart from the overturning of this red card, the tournament so far has seen some great matches and welcome upsets and been a success in the eyes of the travelling fans. Also, the USA is gone as of this morning and the rest of the world can breathe a little easier...

What's the article 27 about? Can federations request action based of that?

Article 27 is what gives FIFA's (Independent) Discplinary Committee the power to suspend punishments, etc
Regardless of political meddling. Was it would it be correct procedure for it to get involved in a case such as Balogun's?

Unfortunately, I did wonder what the general sentiment towards the USMNT and this WC would be like in a hypothetical universe where Harris was President. People (before a ball was kicked) claiming this WC would be the 1936 Berlin Olympics 2.0, almost wanting it to be the case just to satisfy their ego and confirm they're definitely right and not at all maybe just a little bit unhinged and in need of a good long walk outside?

I was death-riding Qatar 2022 from the announcement of their bid in 2010 to when it kicked off, but ended up enjoying it the most out of any WC I've watched, as somebody just too young to remember Mexico '86. To date this WC has had some all-time classic matches, popular upsets and the travelling fans have loved the hospitality of the Americans wherever they've gone. This f**kery by DJT and Infantino has definitely been a low-point, but it's irrelevant now as the USA has been knocked out. And I'll go on the record as saying I always despised them for their arrogance and entitlement, so happy to see them get a reality check this morning regardless of who resides in 1600 Pennsylvania Ave...

*EDIT* Maybe we should start calling him Gianni Vaffanculo?

I’ve enjoyed this World Cup, and just going by YouTube the live fans have really loved it whether there in Canada/USA or Mexico.
I would have went but I can barely afford my smokes and beer on a dole check having to go to Salvos for food stamps to stock up on noodle cups and sausage rolls.

The football, tourism and cultural exchange smashed the politics and hosts and visitors have really enjoyed their time. Not everything needs to be tied to politics. Politics will always be there.

I would say Article 27 reads as a bit vague of when it's allowed to apply - so essentially, they'd be allowed to get involved whenever they feel like it. So... that's concerning in itself.

However, my reading of it (and also from Belgium's initial statement), is that because the World Cup regulations (which includes Qualifying - so I'll get to that) also includes a separate article that mentions all red cards are to be met with an automatic minimum 1-match suspension, that Article 27 cannot override that. Eg, they can only suspend the additional sanction, and not the automatic one-match sanction (as they did with Cristiano Ronaldo).

I am not sure if others have mentioned this, but perhaps the world football community should have shown some decency and pushed back on this earlier disgrace as well
Even if a few of the biggest names boycotted they'd find replacements easy. The same goes for sponsors.

I believe in his principles but this guy goes against ref calls all the time and whinges. I think reverting final decisions is too far however.
Gaffa whinging protesting became part of the game as the game has advanced due to the many fine tune changes and worse VAR.
When your a high end gaffa with stakes so high would you sit back and cop some of today’s crap JS on the sideline ?
Unjust decisions that make or break your season.
They are gagged more and more wouldn’t you prefer known gaffas calling things out.
I sure do.
Whatever his whinging shouldn’t question the principle that thankfully a top gaffa of his stature is speaking out.
Klopp is a purest and he has stood up a lot about the OTT fixtures today and has held back a lot what fifa has implemented many of us agree with over the years.
Good on you Kloppy need more gaffas stand up speak up as well.
