FIFA 2026 WC - general

Not a single Brazilian should be in that qorld cup best XI absolutely trash this morning.

To illustrate this point, this is how a combined 2002 & 2026 Brazil team should look like, bold for current players.

Brazil have completely lost their attacking impetus and x-factor.

3-5-2

Neymar has retired from all international football at the conclusion of Brazil's World Cup campaign and will not feature for the Selecao in their two-match friendly series against the Socceroos in Queensland during the September international window.

It's absolute nonsense that the President had anything to do with this. BBC etc saying there are 'reports' of this which cannot be confirmed.

Yet hang on, it wasn't a red card, right? So people can now shut up because justice has been served. Or is that not what you want now because or some tedious political link?

Wow, truly the end of an era. What a career and what a player. Was definitely time to call it a day though, João Pedro shoulda been picked over him.

Let’s be honest, if we beat Egypt but got even the softest red card, they wouldn’t overturn it.

It's happened before with pre tournament reds. FIFA hasn't given a reason and just invoked an article. To think that one person can phone up and they just do it is nonsense. There are others at FIFA who would've looked at the footage, seen the provision and granted it.

It wasn't a red card anyway, right? Let everyone who was against it now rejoice in justice served.

Probably because the FA wouldn't ask. The entire USA set up and Media has put the spotlight on this.

It's set a bad precedent but there were previous examples in the BBC article stated.

They really did pick a shit squad. The one everyone talks about is the fact that Neymar shouldn’t’ve been there and João Pedro should’ve (as should’ve Estêvão, Rodrygo, Wesley, etc, and Endrick needs to play more). However, we should also look at some others:
  • Fabinho plays for Al-Ittihad
  • Luiz Henrique and Douglas Santos play for Zenit St Petersburg
  • Roger Ibañez plays for Al-Ahli
Why is Carlo Ancelotti picking players that play in Russia and Saudi Arabia? The RPL and SPL aren’t good enough for Brazil to be picking players from there.

Brazil’s goalkeeping stock is also limited if Álisson gets injured. Ederson plays for Fenerbahçe in the Süper Lig. Weverton is 38 and plays for Grêmio who are 16th in the Brasileirão (a point above 17th which is the relegation zone, since four teams go down). Their other options aren’t good enough either; they’ve got Bento from Al-Nassr, Hugo Souza from Corinthians (probably the best choice for a backup of these three) and John Victor from Nottingham Forest (but he doesn’t start for Forest).

Their squad is aging too. Only two players in the World Cup squad are under the age of 24, those being 19-year-olds Endrick and Rayan. They’ve only got four 25-year-olds too. Meanwhile, they’ve got 11 players over 30, including six over 33.

Ederson was previously part of the Manchester City playing list that won the continental treble in season 2022-23 before being transferred to Turkey though.

Estevao was hamstrung and ruled out for the entirety of the World Cup before the tournament got underway and Endrick didn't really make much of an impact for Brazil during their campaign.
