Socceroos vs Egypt - 2026 World Cup R32 - Sat 4th of July 4am AEST

If Souttar converts the chances change. I wonder who the fifth taker was?

Just watched the replay, I think both sides were even maybe Egypt had the better end of the match. We only scored from an own goal which pretty much sums up how woeful we are. Poppas tactics are very questionable - I give him credit for playing Volpato but still we need Mo up front and the pen tackers were bad. It was like Poppa didn’t want us to win from pens.

Same the other games went to pens.
The what ifs.
Been going on for years that question be it cup finals and WCups.
Remember Baggio.

Many have said similar thoughts that have gone through my mind.
For all the one who will applaud Popa I ask don’t you want more in 2026 and beyond.
I’m done with the Aussie dna play to defend in fear of losing attitude yes from our last 2 coach’s.

Mind you I get it they don’t have confidence in their squads.
I also question the ongoing fapping over some of our players.
Barring Souttar yes not in big league but he’s proven, Circati and Volpato no other play in leagues similar.
We need forward thinking planning by the FA not just about qualifying for WCup cash cows that they squander in the first place.

I could say more but in short home needs alot of work to improve And they need to support and help young elite players more in getting abroad instead of plodding along here.

I’m livid what we’ve dished out whereas others would give it a pass and say wait till this next gen coming through - heard that all before.

I see Circati confirmed he was the fifth taker. What on earth?

It should've been
Hrustic, Toure, Mabil, Irvine, Okon

Popovic essentially tied a hand behind our backs. The players tried to break free at times.

There were a number of moments where we needed a quick cross or the ball was around in the box and no one went in for the kill.

I don’t mind maybe one no nonsense CB in there somewhere. Lucas Neil’s v Uruguay is my favourite pen from that night. Only a couple of steps. No nonsense. Perfection.

Popovic played a back 4 at Victory. 4-2-3-1. I'd like to see that. I wonder if he pivots now.

Agree. What team has ever had its 3 CBs taking penalties … after all playing 120 mins. And the idea that the players didn’t know who or what order before the match is totally bizarre.

If Circati really was the 5th penalty taker, then Poppa's contract needs to be terminated tomorrow. What team in world football has 3 CB'S in the first 5 takers? Did he have a hunch? That and Ryan not knowing he would be subbed on is absolute amateur hour from Poppa.

He was cheap, so it can't be that much to pay him off. There must be more competent cheap coaches around?

85min Metcalfe with the great first time ball through to Hrustic. Hrustic again too slow and fancy but these are the moments where Irankunda thrives.

A lot of good transition moments were wasted but the players did look up and try to feed the ball. The sooner we have our best ball players out there we'll be better off.

I'm often OK with defenders taking penalties provided they're no nonsense low and hard. Both went high.

We had fresh players on who can take penalties. If Hrustic coverts the first then we can at least see the development.

Mabil was good in ET. The exact fresh legs and drive to do something. He was fouled late on the edge of the box and his shot was blocked. Disappointing but they planned it that way. I wish Hrustic had also been over it.

We really missed Goodwin this tournament and he was fit enough to make a contribution.

That last kick of the game. Souttar heads in and Toure just can't get it. Herrington right behind potentially slotting it.

I think Popovic got the waves of his changes wrong. He subbed when we didn't need to or did it too early or late or the wrong personel.
