FIFA WC 26 - Other Nations LIVE Match Thread ⚽

So both Congo and Senegal had leads against euro nations, I think like Japan they also have a mentality issue it’s a shame because they clearly can compete.

Nothing is for certain at this World Cup.
With more & more Africans now playing in Europe, the players are getting stronger both physically & mentality to go with their natural talent.

Red for me it was an accident but the dude not only stamps his foot but rakes his entire back leg with his studs on the way doing it lol. Such a clumsy play. The USA players weren't even complaining they knew that's a red.

10-man United States got the job done 2-0 over Bosnia and Herzegovina in their World Cup round of 32 game to book their spot in the round of 16, where they'll face Belgium.

Folarin Balogun suspended for the United States heading into their round of 16 match after receiving a straight red card in the 64th minute of their World Cup round of 32 game for a foul.

Bosnia. Maybe the worst team of the knockouts so far.

Sweden... even they looked decent with some shots before France turned it on. South Africa DID show promise against Canada but their tactics let them down.

Bosnia.... a man advantage but not only did they not concede.... they had absolute no chances to score at all really.

Good grit showed by this US team. Another day, another time and they concede and lose their heads and fall out of the tournament. But a very composed display and win this game quite comfortably. Very impressive.

Balogun a huge loss against Belgium but I think they have a very good chance against them still. Belgium have not impressed at all. Their only good game against a NZ side who had to play for a win against them and open up.

Ok time to put my eyes to the 3 main things to discuss today:
  • England non-penalty: Correct decision. Someone said it earlier explaining the feet giving it away. But, I'll have a little bit more to say on this because...
  • Belgium penalty: Wrong decision, I honestly can't even see the proper contact in that. In saying that - as this was given by VAR, I'm now surprised the England one wasn't given earlier.
  • Balogun red card: I think this is one of those 'orange' card situations. I certainly didn't think it was a stonewall red card on the VAR replays (basically same thinking as @Beretta said) HOWEVER (see what I did there) it's a situation now where because this was overturned and given a Red Card, it begs the question on why quite a few other decisions haven't led to the same outcome throughout the tournament (such as Messi against Saudi Arabia, and whoever the Yank was that got Metcalfe) that seemed nearly identical to this situation. In honesty, looking at it again, I think it's more the ankle bit that gives the red card than the rake across the back of the calf.

Im not 100% but The Messi one wasnt a card so not able to be reviewed on that basis? Only if it was enough for yellow or not, at first glance VAR said "No card" so nothing further.. If it was given as yellow and reviewed it would have then been rightly given red... at least I think?

VAR can look into any incident if they think it warrants a red - doesn't need an initial decision for/against it
