FIFA 2026 WC - general

The expanded tournament is mixed for me

Yes it's good having more games and giving more countries a go but the Rd three games have been dull af
Which ones? Group A had drama, maybe the France group ended weakly. Canada's group a little stale but the others had a lot riding on them.

Some 3rd group games were boring but others were important to determine the final placings so teams had a lot at stake.Even when it was only 32 teams involved a lot of 3rd games were inconsequential as the placings has already been decided.I am not sure if the 48 team format is the right way to go but so far most of the football has been good to watch.

This morning's permutation's finally show up the folly of changing the qualification process for teams on equal points.

Both Panama and Jordan, under the old system, would have something to play for.

Well done, FIFA ..... well done!

Steve Clarke has stepped down as Scotland head coach following their elimination from the World Cup, calling time on his seven-year tenure at the helm of the side and finishing as their most successful head coach.

I don't really like H2H but the risk of blowout scores to make GD lopsided was a concern. Funnily that didn't happen in the end and the results were typically standard for a football match.

It's happened the other way around too that a team beats another 1:0 but their 6:0 win earlier has them ahead so they had a mountain to climb even before kick off. H2H in some cases speeds up the inevitable.

Really hot weather due for North America so we might see a change in match intensity and training sessions indoors. Dallas stadium has aircon.

I’ve enjoyed it this far, but I preferred the 2018 and 2022 tournaments.

I also enjoyed the 2014 tournament …. Until the knock out rounds, where the enterprising and engrossing football ground to a halt.

Let’s see what the knockout stage’s delivers.

Two things have stuck out for me in this tournament -

1. European dark horse is just code for extremely expensive squads who underwhelm as a unit. As an aside, you can't really call sides like Croatia a dark horse when they more or less perform at every tournament.

2. Messi could be a better player in a better system than he was in 2022. All the punditry about how unique and evolved Argentina's system is, to me it is just more Argentinian and natural than it has been for decades*. And Messi looks like now that he's got the monkey off his back, he's ready to party and that's a pretty scary prospect.

*Players owning their space zonally in defence and attack and players presenting options to both run into space and to receive the ball to feet for every pass. Repeat.

that why they are classified as dark horse's for they come close yet so far in the end.......they sure can't be in the group of Fav's for eg, so they are outsiders.

The current team have matured/evolved since last WC.
Scoloni and the entire squad have the monkey off their backs and have worked out perfectly how they play Messi into the game.
They have each others back 110% and know how to expose Messi's instinct and kill like brothers in arms.

Yeah, I think that's what I meant. I understand Croatia as a dark horse in that context but Belgium, Switzerland etc...not so much.

"One more time..."

It was one of the defining tracks of the French Touch genre of electronic music.....

For more than two decades, Daft Punk's seminal anthem has filled clubs from Paris to Tokyo to Los Angeles to London. In the summer of 2026, it finds an unexpected new stage. Every goal scored by Les Bleus at the FIFA World Cup is celebrated with the unmistakable sound of France's most influential electronic duo....
