Socceroos vs Brazil in September 2026

Game 1:

  • Location: Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
  • Date: Tuesday, 29 September
 
Hope we can snag a win out of one of these games, we need to start being competitive against these teams. We are good enough to get a win.

I think it’s cool that we’re going up there. Great to spread the friendlies out so everyone gets a chance to go. Townsville’s a big city and North Queensland is pretty far from literally everywhere (it’s closer to PNG than most of Australia lol).

That’s the thing about Australia, we’re such a big country that we can’t have one home stadium where every game is played. England has Wembley which hosts most England games but that’s because England is a lot smaller. If we hosted every game in one city, everyone else would get mad (as evident by the uproar when the APL hosted the grand final in Sydney).
 
Fine with both games in Qld.In non WC years should try to bring out top UEFA/African/South American teams to play up there when Qld playing SOO in Sydney or wherever they want to play it outside of the Sunshine State.Might take a while to catch on but it would test Cane Toad code loyalties ;)

This window is honestly perfect for it I think - as is a good hitout pre Asian Cup as well
 
I dislike playing the same team twice in the same friendly window. And while I like the concept of playing an international in a regional area, surely it is not a great move to play Brazil, a team with big drawing power and likely to get high spectator numbers, in a 25,000 capacity stadium.

Given that there is only 1 game of AFL in Melbourne that week, I'm surprised Marvel wasn't explored. But then again, AFL owns that now doesn't it? That would explain it. Sydney likely is using the two big stadiums that week (or having on standby) as it will be the Preliminary Finals of NRL. Although in saying that, if Dolphins make the prelims, that's Suncorp as well.... which I guess is probably why the mid-week game is the Suncorp one.

Considering that Townsville is hosting some of the Olympic Football, I think this is a good run for them. I know if my family was still living in Queensland, I'd be moving heaven and earth to go to this.
 
I was thinking in the leadup to my interview with Mark Crowe that the wallabies have basically trippled their national team revenue with premium events

There is potentially enough revenue in the national teams to run a nst, an nyl and parachute payments to make p&r viable (plus the same for women), especially if those initiatives leads to a better national team - those investments pay for themselves many times over

so super interesting that they managed to do this while keeping costs down (as the government is footing the bill)

Which premium events are you referring to? Was it the Lions tour last year?Yes this was a real money spinner for RU-lots of well off Poms,Jocks,Taffies and Irish spending big.However not many overseas visitors would come to Australia to follow their teams so needs lots of locals to attend-maybe have double headers with the Matildas.

Yep the lions tour. Rugby australias revenue from thay was insane
 
The FA is screaming there broke yet they can fly out one of the most expensive national teams to Australian shores by playing on small Rugby league pitches.
How do they justify this with crowds of only 18k turning up? Oh wait there milking the money the Socceroos made getting to the world cup and into the R32. Yep great spending once again Football Australia you really know how to run your bank account into zero.
 
That new Townsville stadium is awesome. Maybe if the game if a we could consider an A League club. How about, North Queensland Fury?
