The videos are only on my own sub though now that I’ve been censored from 2/3 major Aussie soccer subs (other than the club ones).

I'm seeing people criticise our performance. So weird.

It's tournament play. Do people expect Joga Bonito from Australia in a do or die World Cup game that we just need to avoid loss in?

We controlled possession for good periods, had more chances and the better chances against a strong South American team. That was the most assured and comfortable World Cup performance from Australia in three or four cycles. The first half in particular was excellent.

That's also 4 clean sheets in our last 6 World Cup games, and we've scored in 4 of those games, which is excellent for an emerging football nation.

We are a young team and the scope for improvement is huge. This is a day to be proud.

Bring on the knockouts!

Tomorrow we find out who we play in the round of 32. I can't decide who to watch EGY v IRN or NZL v BEL. Probably the latter cos I like this Kiwi side with Wood, Singh, Just and the least known player at the World Cup guy now with a multi-million social media following, the totally modest all-round nice bloke Tim Payne.

I like the possession lineup for sure. I'd consider an Okon-Engstler in there but I really think Metcalfe can be super useful in that LWB/RWB position. Some of his best contributions are usually defensive in nature and he offers more going forward than Behich who was ordinary today. I believe Italiano will be back though.

If we are playing Iran or NZ, I hope we go full-out attack, we can sustain a strong amount of attack and defence for 90 minutes. Get Irankunda on the wing where he is dangerous, have his partner in crime (Toure) making runs in behind and we will be a lot more dangerous than we were today, and with Bos and Volpato causing all sorts of problems respectively. Belgium, would be a more tactical game whether we park the bus and find a late winner similar to Turkey or perhaps we try to score early and hold.

I don't think we've found that balance yet in the starting lineup. Feels like we are still yet to see our best XI. Herrington is a must-start for me.

Great to reach the knockouts, and hopefully Popa has taken note of the last two matches—particularly that Irankunda isn’t a number 9. He’s our most dynamic winger, and in that role he caused the Turkish defence all sorts of problems.

The number 9 role should rotate between Touré and Yengi. Bearing in mind the chance of extra time, I’d start with Irankunda, Touré, and Metcalfe as the front three, then look to bring on Volpato and Yengi in the 60–70 minute window, depending on how the game is unfolding.

We're the designated home team so we should be in our home kit!
