Summer of Cricket thread

haha I wanted to say the same so as Richie doesn't think no care.
Just too much on football wise especially, the USOpen golf was on last weekend and some of my motor racing watch as well locally and F1.
I am multi sports minded LFC. Hearing it is a day match for us Aussies, so I will pop in on the Roos. Hope the boys show more intent than shown against the Yanks in that disastrous first stanza. Need to get off to a flyer.

Massive bombshell overnight. England captain Ben Stokes announces his retirement from international cricket.

Mid-test too. Maybe he saw the memes after the Ashes saying he was the worst English leader since Prince Andrew.

In all seriousness I wish him well. Great cricketer.

Do we elevate Stokes to greatness, I am unsure. His Test all round stats suggest not, but his all format stats suggest probably, with over 11,000 runs, 330 wickets in his bag. Few English cricketers of the past generation had the same tenacity against adversity than the Kiwi born Pommie had. For mine, his greatest feat was winning the unwinnable Test from us at Headingley in 2019. These words best sum up Ben Stokes, fearless, flawed, but always unforgettable. A talismanic cricketer.

He's no Flintoff for me. Freddie sits alongside Botham as their greatest ever all-rounder.
