FIFA WC 26 - Other Nations LIVE Match Thread ⚽

Every dog has his day:
"Belgium became a strong football nation in two distinct eras: initially in the 1980s, and more recently during the 2010s. The latter period, driven by a complete restructuring of their youth academies, produced the nation's "Golden Generation" and propelled them to become the #1 ranked team in the world by FIFA"
I expected Belgium to become a powerhouse.

In Football Aus National Conferences, powerhouses are defined as football nations who have constant success in producing quality players- not a few Golden Generations.

For a short time the Dutch were struggling, whilst Belgium thrived - in Europe.

Belgium have produced numerous quality players over the years but the tactical system in recent times has failed them unfortunately which has meant that they haven't performed as well in the last World Cup and European Championship cycles.

I'm a bit disappointed with Belgium. Poor old de Bruyner copped a battering. But their stars are ageing, and as you said in earlier post Iran were at times looking better than Belgium. So maybe I'd rather we face Belgium than Egypt if they're in their 2nd half v NZL form, the Egyptians I mean.
Haven’t Belgium struggled a bit playing outside UEFA? At the same time in a recent period they’ve played very well in Europe.

I haven’t watched them much in recent times, but 10 years ago Belgium tended to play one of the 4-3-3 manifestations with the ball.

Belgium did well in the 2018 World Cup but this cycle they dropped points against Iran and Egypt, in addition to only managing a 1-1 draw with 10-man Kazakhstan during the qualification process.
