For mine playing two up front (if we play three at the back) does suit our talent pool much better, it was obvious when picking squads for shits n gigs.

Maybe Herrington in for Burgess but otherwise, leave the defence alone.

Bos has been underwhelming so far but he's too good to stay quiet for long.

For mine the biggest conundrum is dealing with the counter press in central midfield.
 
Starting lineup
GK Beach (silly to change now?)
RCB Circati (but have a feeling Geria may start)
CB Souttar (Man mountain)
LCB Herrington (the kid is too good not to play)
RWB Italiano (no other feasible backup option in squad)
LWB Bos (sizable drop in quality to an aging Behich)
CM Trewin (almost the 4th CB and better in and around the box)
CM Okon Jr (whom else could we try as a more progressive passer? Hrustic a risk? Metcalfe didn't work in friendlies?)
RW Metcalfe (the midfield needs the help)
LW Irankunda (was decent with back to goal v Turkey)
CF Yengi (if Toure can't last the 90, we need to hold the ball up when changing transitions)

Would almost swap Irankunda to CF and Toure/Yengi to LW to give them less isolated support during hold up play, Irankunda a threat in behind.

Volpato sub for Metcalfe if chasing or the other two attacking positions if not.

With Circati and Souttar it’s more about the yellow cards. If you’re Paraguay you’re gonna run at them knowing they can’t risk a yellow. I agree. Professional footballers with a six day rest should be able to play a whole season at that tempo.

According to Popa Irankunda can't last the 90, Volpato's fitness not up to scratch and Toure doesn't seem to be able to last the full 90 either. Our centre mids also risk getting outnumbered without Metcalfe taking up one of those attacking spots.

The resting thing seems nonsense to me too (not a strength and conditioning coach so not qualified). It’s a World Cup - best team has to play (unless players are carrying injuries of course). A whole bunch of our team play in the championship and play 20000 games a season with 2-3 day breaks. I’m not against management in terms of yellow cards - but would be more inclined to go strongest team and if winning take off a Souttar or Circati to avoid suspension.

Any info on what is wrong with Bos? He looks lost. He is not the same player as the gun who freaked out the Americans in last year's friendly. Wonder if it's physical or mental?

I posted this just before WC kicked off: "I wonder who will get the first red card for speaking to an opponent in a confontational situation while covering their mouth with a hand or shirt. I'd put my money on a Uruguayan". I was close! Just got the wrong Guayan!!
