The thing is that Izzo was the next big thing after 10 saves with one very good and one good save and the rest routine. Same with Beach in the first game. 8 saves - one very good and one good save and the rest routine.

Now can you tell me that in 100 or so games that Maty has not done at least as good in any game. Everyone lauds Schwarzer but at a national team level Maty has delivered very similar results.

So in one sentence you say 100 or so games and in another you laud one game for Beach. Maty delivers week in week out at a high level. Beach has some great games at the ALM level and then has a couple of howlers. Was probably behind the Sydney FC and Auckland keepers in the ALM in the last season. Crtainly not consistent enough to be a locked in starter for the national teams.

Now only if we had a manager or assistant that were defensive gurus that could teach him to keep a straight line...

Shades of Jason Davidson and Franjic at 2014.

I do think he is the future - but that tendency needs to be coached out of him.

I simply asked if you can remember Maty having a game of that quality? If you can remember Maty making 3 big saves in a match, or even making a match winning save, I am happy to be corrected.

A recent post I saw valued the teams on Transfer Market, or something similar.

Turkey $750 million
USA $650 million
Paraguay $250 million
Aus $127 million.

Overseas club coaches and player agents have consistently valued our players much lower than our opponents in the WC.

I don’t mean Aus should give up, but ask yourselves, is there any possibility your expectations are too high, given the relative monetary value of Socceroos compared to the other 3 teams?

On form Turkish players are overpaid, but you can tell they are class players.

Putting the ball into the net is the hardest part of the game.

Thie highest paid player for Paraguay is probably the guy suspended for our game.

I think lacking Prem players puts our market value down. The Prem pays more than any other league cause it’s the most watched sports league on the planet.

Or we could go for a foreigner who has no biases. People hated Graham Arnold for being a Sydney FC coach and people hate Tony Popović for being a Melbourne Victory/WSW coach.

They said: “Fuck Arnie, he’s a Smurf”. Now they say: “Fuck Popa, he’s a Vuck and a Westie”. We’re too tribal: a good coach is a good coach but good coaches also don’t have biases.

No people are frustrated by Popovic because he is a one-dimensional manager.

People hated Arnie because he was defensive when needed but showed with his tenures with CCMFC and SFC that with the right players he is far from a defensive manager.

Melbourne dominates the digital and print analysis space and so defaults to supporting their own (even if he is a Sydney United player). His tenure in Melbourne and the contraction of football journalists mean that the relationships built there do not question him - whereas Arnie was questioned incessantly.
