I'd play him.One for the future - not now - as RIMB said and I noticed in one of the friendlies he drops back and lets players stay on side - needs to keep a straight lime.

Pat, the thing about Matt is that in 100 or so games, I really struggle to think of a game where he did as well as Beach did in game 1. Was there a WC game when we all went, thank god Maty was in goals?
Now only if we had a manager or assistant that were defensive gurus that could teach him to keep a straight line...I'd play him.
Popovic and Foxe. Greatest defensive minds goinNow only if we had a manager or assistant that were defensive gurus that could teach him to keep a straight line...
Shades of Jason Davidson and Franjic at 2014.
I do think he is the future - but that tendency needs to be coached out of him.
I simply asked if you can remember Maty having a game of that quality? If you can remember Maty making 3 big saves in a match, or even making a match winning save, I am happy to be corrected. The thing is that Izzo was the next big thing after 10 saves with one very good and one good save and the rest routine. Same with Beach in the first game. 8 saves - one very good and one good save and the rest routine.
Now can you tell me that in 100 or so games that Maty has not done at least as good in any game. Everyone lauds Schwarzer but at a national team level Maty has delivered very similar results.
So in one sentence you say 100 or so games and in another you laud one game for Beach. Maty delivers week in week out at a high level. Beach has some great games at the ALM level and then has a couple of howlers. Was probably behind the Sydney FC and Auckland keepers in the ALM in the last season. Crtainly not consistent enough to be a locked in starter for the national teams.

On form Turkish players are overpaid, but you can tell they are class players. Before most continue to excoriate Popa, and the Roo players’ first half performance, consider this.
A recent post I saw valued the teams on Transfer Market, or something similar.
Turkey $750 million
USA $650 million
Paraguay $250 million
Aus $127 million.
Overseas club coaches and player agents have consistently valued our players much lower than our opponents in the WC.
Plus Poch is a world-class manager. Before most continue to excoriate Popa, and the Roo players’ first half performance, consider this.

I don’t mean Aus should give up, but ask yourselves, is there any possibility your expectations are too high, given the relative monetary value of Socceroos compared to the other 3 teams?
And you drop both goal scoring players that's baffling in itself in any sport and promote 2 players who struggled in the domestic leagueNish is better defensively and more disciplined than Iran.yeah while
Leckie - 3 WCs under his belt. Put on for the first 45 mins to negate a US team with a massive home crowd. In previous carnations, Leckie has been a superb defensive, immensely strong player when the other team have the ball.
You mean after he got us to the last of 16.Matt’s last WC match … but drop Beach for goals against US.

Socceroos captain Mathew Ryan makes shocking mistake against Argentina
Socceroos fans have lost it at skipper Mathew Ryan after a costly error by the Aussie goalkeeper gifted Argentinean winger Julian Alvarez the easiest of goals during their Round of 16 clash.www.dailymail.com
Yep he started the match with perfect tactics, you can tell the US team is well drilled.Plus Poch is a world-class manager.
Not Diego Gómez who plays for Brighton? The highest paid player for Paraguay is probably the guy suspended for our game.
Or we could go for a foreigner who has no biases. People hated Graham Arnold for being a Sydney FC coach and people hate Tony Popović for being a Melbourne Victory/WSW coach.Yep he started the match with perfect tactics, you can tell the US team is well drilled.
If we attract a top class international coach like that they don't stay long.
Former Australian players who are coaches are our best bet.
