Australian transfers 26-27 Summer

I am wary, especially when it comes to recruiting our teenagers. I’m more optimistic when it comes to our older players.
Is the problem that they normally come from the A league on low transfer cost to the european club so it is minimal risk to them and they can afford to farm them? Looking at articles about both players, their parent clubs have put a big pricetag on their heads, 20m euros for Herrington and 30-40m euros for Circati. Surely if a club is willing to pay this type of money for a player they intend to use them to get a return on their investment.

That's surprising. I think Bos, Circati, Volpato, Toure and Irankunda were all very much in the discussions as far back as last World Cup, most fans had them in 2026 squad with Robertson. Of course, back then Circati, Volpato and Robbo hadn't committed to Aus and Irankunda was very young. Toure wasn't playing much as well and still getting injured every game but on talent they were the obvious choices.

Some players just shine over others, like you said Gianluca and Arena (if he commits), are very likely for 2030 already.

The players who have surprised are Italiano and Herrington. I knew about Herrington before the 2022 World Cup because of the Joeys but I would've never thought this would've happened and I didn't rate Italiano until he came into the Socceroos camp last year.

A few years ago, I predicted Younis and Okon Jr in the 2026 WC squad too. They were the two up and coming players I liked, Okon was obvious and Younis was close to making it.
How could you have known about Herrington prior to the 2022 World Cup? He would have only been 14 then and I’d be surprised if he was playing for the Joeys at that age. In fact Wikipedia doesn’t show him playing for the Joeys at all.

Maybe I’m wrong and his name was being bandied around in 2022, but I didn’t here about him until a couple of years ago.

He was apart of the Joeys squad. He was 15. The start of every cycle there are 14 year olds playing for the Joey's team though. A couple years ago we watched Arena and Gianluca play for the Joeys at 14. Herrington didn't get any minutes but he was in some of the squads.

Hmmm it allows them to hoard appreciating assets while abusing them. They're good enough but I don't like it. Then again if Bassey can play for Fulham, anyone can play EPL.
They're good enough. I alway's think it comes back to if they play or not. I liked the Circati to Atletico Madrid rumour more.

For me, the gold transfer was JBos going to Westerlo - a midtable team in the Belgian league that did not have a huge squad. This meant that if he dedicated himself, then he would get game time. Then came the jump to Feyenoord and in an interview he said that he was aware that their regular LWB had become injured and so he was likely to get game time.
So for me, the player's mangers should be looking at clubs that they have a reasonable chance of getting game time. The only one I don't have a clue would be for Patrick Beach - getting selected to start is one thing but if the team is n top, then he may not get much practice but if the team is down below he will get plenty of practice but I am unsure as to whether that would enable his career to progress.

Ale Circati to Newcastle could be a good move if they lose one of their CBs.

Lucas Herrington needs a Championship move first I reckon.
You would imagine loan deals afterwards.

Both Villarreal and West Ham are two more clubs added to the Irankunda sweepstakes.

Westham is a bit of a sideways move, aren't they going down to the championship?

England is still a very physical focused league,I don't enjoy watching the EPL compared to La Liga imho, the money is massive though.

Been saying it for years, build up! All these kids that went to big clubs didn't turn out that good. I get the funding, facilities and money are decent but Brook to Brentford and Francois to Fulham just saw nothing eventuate.

At the same time going to French or Portuguese clubs where info is scarce isn't fun for the forum!

Lucas Herrington has the potential to make it in the Premier League and already has experience defending against world-class players like Lionel Messi from his time in MLS but it would still be beneficial for him to head to a Championship side contending for promotion to help him develop more as a player.

They also need to be headed to clubs where they can actually get consistent game time because it's not ideal for their development as players and at the same time it's not fun for the forum to have the Aussies abroad section flooded with 'not in the matchday squad altogether' or 'no game time' posts regarding those promising youth prospects who are transferred to powerhouse sides in the Big Five European leagues either.

Yeah but they’re gonna be aiming for promotion. Watford aren’t guaranteed anything.

I think both Hammers & Watford have the same budgetry issues. Could take a while for Hammers to stabalise again despite promotion. I'd be wary.

I prefer the Villareal move under new coach Perez who took Rayo to the final of the conference league. He's a young and ambitious manager in the mold of Iraola.
