FIFA 2026 WC - general

I don't get the massive claims Uzbekistan will advance. Will DR Congo do well?
DR Congo should get the job done against Uzbekistan but will be lucky to get a result against Colombia and are no chance of beating Portugal, and may get out of their group as one of the eight best third-placed teams but I'd say at least one win would be a pass mark for them given their form in the pre-World Cup friendlies.

Mine.....

Roos #1 - I don't know what to expect tbh considering Poppa.
Main thing that will make me happiest is seeing our fellas give it their ALL for our shirt and themselves, run themselves like their life depended on it !
What becomes is anybodies guess I am not going to predict anything.
My other watch’s in no particular order :
Wife is Portugese so got to stand behind as much as I can't one player.
As PubLChamp mentioned EPL players on my watch NT's
MO - luv the man so good luck Egypt.
Robbo Scotland ! really wish them well.
The man VVD Netherlands plus Grav and Gapko.
Argies - Macca and the Messi swansong.
Japan Endo.
Sweden Isak.
Cro a tia ! Modric
Brazil Allison !
Above them all I feel Spain could go all the way but would enjoy a newbie whoever that could be.

No arguments there. DR Congo are definitely stronger than Uzbekistan but not close to the level of Colombia or Portugal.

Speaking of Africa though, I know the discussion is always about Europe and Italy but Cameroon and Nigeria not qualifying is huge.

Shows there is massive depth in the continent since they are often a chance for the knockouts.

I followed the CAF qualifying a lot and I was gutted Benin didn't get in ahead of Nigeria and South Africa. They had a goalless draw against Lesotho.

06 was great for new African nations. Togo, Angola and believe it or not, Ivory Coast and Ghana.
Ah 06 mention being epic for us and….
Last night watched Podolski doco !
What a player
Best Young Player: Awarded to Lukas Podolski (Germany). This award recognized the best-performing player in the tournament who was born on or after January 1, 1985. Podolski scored 3 goals and was a vital part of Germany's attack on their way to a third-place finish.

Infantino's press conference today was that of a spineless cuck. America is getting away with way too much crap. The refusal to allow the ref to enter goes against FIFA's whole ethos, and that they refuse to step in is just evident of how bought Infantino is and how little he cares for the game. Not to mention the issues with the Iran, Senegal, and Uzbekistan teams.

England got the job done 3-0 over Costa Rica in their friendly courtesy of goals to Declan Rice and Ollie Watkins in the ninth and 87th minute of the match respectively in addition to a converted penalty from Anthony Gordon in the 68th minute.

Ok, here’s mine

1. Getting out of the group is a pass for Poppa, given 3rd place teams go through, but I pessimistically don’t think we’ll do it.

Easiest group we ever had plus eight thirds going through sounds like participation is a pass.

To me top 2 is a pass and if we get there a R16 is and should be the minimum target.

I watched Algeria draw 1-1 with Spain in Spain in recent friendly. They were impressive. Hope they can claim a big European scalp as they did in 1982, beating West Germany 2-1
I tell a lie, sorry that was Arnie's Lions of Mesopotamia who drew with Spain. Algeria beat the Netherlands in Rotterdam, and drew with Uruguay in April

The Socceroos made the round of 16 in the old format of the World Cup last cycle but we would have ideally learnt our lessons from four years ago and built on those foundations heading into this year's campaign which means that getting at least one win in the knockout stage should be the target for us.

We have added 7 new Socceroos to the World Cup squad since Popovic took over. Every other member of the squad has either been at a World Cup or debuted under Arnie or before. We have wasted time a prioritised poor choices that Popovic knows rather than picking the players that would make the best team for the tournament.

My expectations are low for this tournament (in spite of my tipping) - I just hope I am wrong - but expect I am not.

The football media that seemed to love Ange and hate Arnie have found another manager to love and are setting expectations low saying getting out of the group is the target.

My hopes and dreams rest on us finishing 2nd in the group. I want a New Zealand or Iran match in the Round of 32 just for the spectacle of Australia.

NZ because who would have ever thought Australia v NZ in a knockout World Cup game??
Iran because it's been 29 years we've been waiting for that rematch...
