Matildas friendlies in June 2026

am I right McNamara played 19 NT games for 2 goals ?
At the time of the Matildas playing list for the friendlies against Mexico being named Holly McNamara had 19 caps and just the two goals but to be fair she hasn't been able to find the back of the net at international level despite winning the Golden Boot in back-to-back Dub seasons for Melbourne City.

Mostly as a sub though. She also missed out on a lot of caps cause of her ACL injury.
The only reason why Holly McNamara earned most of her Matildas caps from the bench is because the selection policy favoured Sam Kerr up front with Michelle Heyman stepping in when she was out with injury, in addition to the fact that she missed out on earning more caps and making her debut earlier due to those three ACL injuries she sustained in the span of six years.

thanks for the intel.
Well she's doing it tuff coming back 3 times from acl's even at her young age and you guys feel SK hasn't been the same since after 1 lol.....
There's nothing that the Dud is to compare (re golden boots) when turning out for the NT sorry to say.
Chalk and cheese obviously.
Defence’s are far better when your playing NT games as we know, sub or not.
Maybe she has suffered also by the lack of quality distribution for having watched tilly games I'm not surprised.

Sam Kerr has sustained multiple ACL injuries over the course of her career but her latest one came during the twilight of her career and to be fair she is starting to regress though.

@ 32yrs your not that far behind your prime and depending the service you receive.
I feel that’s why SK is looked upon the regress re tillys, they lack midfield and quality service.
Talking frontmen no diff to W game regards to scoring.
Kane 32 - killing it.
Lewandowski been a weapon but now @ 37, 30 to 35 just impressive.
MO is 33 and has killed it till this lame season.
Greizmann has only recently fallen back @ 35yrs.
Just saying she still can deliver as long as she gets ball that she doesn't, all I see is her running around like a chook chasing ball more than in the spot.
Again there is no one else who can deliver the goods next 2 yrs for eg that I can see...your dreaming.

We have plenty of promising midfield prospects in the Matildas system like Shelby McMahon and Leticia McKenna though and the only reason why this is the case is because the selection policy prioritises picking players who are good in chance creation but cannot connect with the forward line which therefore means that we struggle to convert chances into meaningful shots at goal and are unable to find the back of the net.

rf74 - I was countering your regress comment re SK therefore that’s strikers.
I won't go into midfielders for they are miles off at this stage, promising is one thing, delivering and carrying on with that form is in the future and we wait and see till done and proven.
I feel/see its a long way yet.
We are ranked 15th - you got to accept the facts - I really do wish we were as high as the hype.

Age is a big factor too. They say it’s best to do your ACL when you’re young. Sam Kerr is nine years older than Holly Mac, who was six when Sam débuted for the Tillies. Chloe Berryhill (née Logarzo) tore her ACL last season and retired at 31 (though she was never half the player SK20 was).

yer nah but you presented a good case Berryhill. She decided had enough opted out.
There are many factors in between and its not just about age.
Plus we are talking Pro's, who have the best support in recovery.
You a player ?
I have been for decades (Div1/Prem) - its all the power of the mind and importantly your genes as well.
I have suffered ruptured Achilles tendon, came back following season late 30's.
Suffered ACL late 40's early season, came back next.
All about the rehab mind/determination and regain confidence, some can some not, some had enough in fear hang up boots like Berryhill.
Some I know have gone through 3/4 like Holly Mac, kept playing till finally they opted out in their 50's haha

yep that it did having good lawyers, she should have got charged imo.
Thanks for sharing that opinion on both the brief of evidence and quality of legal representation. It is good to know those with knowledge of the situation are sharing their unique insights with the rest of the community.

Reactions: LFC
Despite the poor showing and result, the TV ratings for Saturday night were, once again, very very good. Comfortably knocked off the AFL.

with pleasure o wise one.

I am not expecting any changes in the lineup for tonight’s game. There may be a couple more of substitutions late in the match. I can’t see MacNamara or Gomez getting any game time.
I do believe Montemurro is being limited in what he can do by both the FA and the senior players.

As in the players are telling him to pick them and their mates?

The Matildas' starting XI for our second of two friendlies against Mexico at CommBank Stadium has been named. Two changes have been made to the playing list, with Clare Wheeler starting in place of Emily van Egmond and Hayley Raso coming in for Amy Sayer. Caitlin Foord leads the line as captain in her 150th appearance for the Tillies, whilst Mackenzie Arnold again starts between the sticks.

At least we got one change I wanted. I hate that that means Izzy Gómez probably won’t play though.
