Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

Even though Alex Robertson has been promoted to the Championship with Cardiff City he hasn't actually managed to get game time at that level yet.
Yeah, he has, 35 appearances in fact according to Wiki. Cardiff were in the Championship in the 24/25 season and Robertson was playing with them then.

This feels like Popovic making a statement with Robertson's omission. By sitting on the fence and not committing to Australia during the qualifying campaign, it may have ultimately harmed his chances of making the final squad.

I appreciate that Popovic took a different approach with Volpato, but McGree's injury created a need that made his inclusion more valuable and easier to justify.

My hope is that this decision has the desired effect and motivates Robertson to return with a renewed hunger to force his way back into World Cup contention for 2030. Ideally, he makes himself available for the upcoming Asian Cup and World Cup qualifying campaigns, because I believe he could still technically switch his international allegiance again before the 2030 World Cup.

Yeah, your probably right. Herrington, O'Neil and Trewin are the MLS saviours of football, we don't need any others.
Harrington is 18 years and potential to go much higher.
O'Neill Trewin, Triantis, Yazbeck, Ballard, Baccus, Devlin, and 1 or 2 others are all about same standards, we produce a lot of these type of players, we dont produce a lot of Volpato or Irankundas.

Again I like Robertson, hope he develops next year in championship, but dont compare Volpato serie A player to Robertson league one.

I think it's a lot simpler than that. I think Popovic felt he had better players available in his position.

NB: I can't comment on if I think he should be in the squad or not. I don't watch League 1 football and have only seen him for the 10 minutes or so he got in Melbourne where he showed me enough to know he isn't useless but didn't really have the chance to show what he can do or if he is better than other options.

With irvine going down all of our central midfield options will be in similar quality leagues next year and easy to compare. Robertson had a season in the championship and did very well that season despite his team being relegated. Similar to balard and oniells best seasons at a similar level, but being younger he has more upside. He might find it difficult to break in unless he stands well above our other options since combination with irvine is a factor in the near term

With this whole crap about 'wanting to focus on my club situation' blokes like Herrington and Velupillay are much smarter. They're at clubs where they're absolutely wanted and a bigger fish. The issue with the others is they're risking their spot by committing to Australian travel.

They should opt for clubs that couldn't do without them. Robertson needn't have carried on this way as Cardiff knew how important he was. Again it was probably whispers in his ear.

We need more blokes like Emerton who came in every single window rather than the picky types.
