A-League transfer news/rumours

2012–13 was definitely worse, our defence was genuinely horrid and Wanderers won the premiership (but thankfully lost the grand final). Unless you mean for the women's then 2025–26 was definitely the worst.
I dont think anyone speaks about the women's side of the Aleague when defining a clubs performance. Good on you for pushing a preference but as much as you try to squeeze it into every conversation I don't think it has reached the stage in its evolution that it can crossover just yet....

With due respect stats are invaluable, SB.

In one of G and G Podcast guest columnists, Stefan Syzminski’s Soccernomics, which he co-wrote with globally esteemed football author/journo, Simon Kuper, SAF, Arsene Wenger and Sam Allardyce, used stats well before the rest of EPL coaches. The former duo had resounding, premature success. Now all EPL coaches use comprehensive statistical analysis to analyse players and teams.

Mistakes can be made though. SAF incorrectly read that Jaap Stam was making less tackles per game at Man U. He sold him to a big Italian club, where Stam went on to have resounding success!
Did you not read in your KNVB pamphlet that Fergie let go of Stam at the time over comments that were made in his biography and later , very publicly, admitted that he regretted his decision. I mean it was fairly global football news in 2001.... or had you NOT "discovered" football yet?

Perth Glory are culling six players from their A-League Women playing list, with Ischia Brooking, Naomi Chinnama, Gabby Hollar, Tanika Lala, Sarah O'Donoghue and Nat Tathem all leaving the club upon falling out of contract at season's end.

Melbourne City have delisted Harry Shillington, who will leave the club at season's end following the conclusion of his contract after making 24 appearances across all competitions including 13 starts for the side during his two years of service time, in addition to playing in both domestic competitions and as part of their AFC Champions League Elite campaign since signing his first professional contract ahead of A-League Men season 2024-25.

I think most ALW players are on single season contracts so I don’t know what ‘ falling out of contract’ actually means.

Some Dub players extend their single-season contracts at their clubs though so when they have enough service time to see out their contracts then they fall out of contract and are subsequently delisted.

Perth have a visa spot left then. The Glory were fairly poor last season so it makes sense that they’re cutting players.

Newcastle Jets have released their retained list and list of new arrivals ahead of A-League Men season 2026-27, with Max Burgess, James Delianov, Daniel Wilmering, Eli Adams, Alex Badolato, Max Cooper, Zach Clough, Joel Bertolissio, Will Dobson and Xavier Bertoncello remaining under contract for next season.

Unless someone pays up it looks like Eli Adams will be staying even though it looked like other clubs were interested.

I'm a bit surprised by this, he played a lot of minutes.
I've watched the NPL team and there's a good RB playing there, or at least the games I've watched, so maybe they are bringing him through.

Really when you think about the a league is just teams releasing players and then picking up other discarded players.

I guess the fun is watching to see who plays well but it's a bit repetitive init
Eli Adams? Max Burgess? Rejected by clubs, brilliant season, great to watch. What league in the world doesn't operate like this, the only difference is we don't have big money to bring in a lot of foreigners like in England etc.

Its like a big game of UNO... whoever is left with the least amount of cards at the end can ask to join the Championship.
