The Football Australia Thread

The reason Football Australia is losing so much money is the Australian Championship.
Having sixteen teams with teams from all over the country means the travel costs in the group stage are massive.
It seems to produce no revenue at all and Football Australia seemingly is paying all the costs.
Infantino has come out now and shown his true colous.
How can he can say that about a comp with a sub 5k grand final and pathetic crowds no one is interested in.
So all along this has all been about getting rid of Lowy to give Saudis the world cup.
The only clubs doing the job in Australia are the A-league clubs and SA NPL clubs.
The rest do nothing useful and the Australian Championship is useless as well.

In case this is serious...

The travel costs were fine. Most of the teams are from Sydney and Melbourne and share the same groups creating local derbies.

Far from pathetic crowds. They're actually good for most second divisions in the world, including other sports in Australia.

And it's actually the most useful thing we've had trying to form our pyramid.

you are too kind of a person HG to consider responding to that obvious troll of a first post.
Mind you it is funny - you need to be when your flat broke.

thats the group structure in case you dont know.
they could have reduced the cost to one third if they had the teams from the same state group together.
Australia does not have one single national second division in any other sport.
There is a good reason for that.
The only thing on offer here is the votes controlling the FA in this country , is that useful to Infantino yes and helping the Saudis.
Having a group of part timers wandering around the country spending the FA dollar is not useful to Australian football the reverse.
Getting rid of the rego fee regime would open up the country to all the talent in it not this rubbish.

Literally a local derby in each group, or do you think they fly between Sydney and Newcastle?

That defeats the purpose of the tournament. And that's a guaranteed way of having people not following it.

It's a second tier, not a division. And the VFL would like a word.

Anyway, enjoy your Saturday!

You think clubs in the same state want to play each other even more after the NPL season? :ROFLMAO:

Great article but such a DISAPOINTING situation....

I'm glad more people are digging into our governance system

It wasn't the first time I have seen the finger pointed at the zone system as killing democratic accountability
Along with the waste, I mean there seems to be absolutely NO accountability...

I wish I could copy and paste the below statement over and over and over again.....

First of all it is worth acknowledging that the Federal Government has in the past 20 years given football more funding than any other sport, including supporting a failed World Cup bid, a successful Women’s World Cup bid and two Asian Cup hosting bids.

Fans were told how hugely successful these events were, along with the benefits of the national men’s and women’s teams regularly qualifying for World Cup finals, so why is the sport still unable to sustain itself?

If the funding only goes to bids and the national teams then that’s a bit of a problem. We need grassroots-level funding and funding into the A-Leagues and NPLs.

It proves the shit show

It proves the kind of shit show the top has been for 20yrs !
Marque events granted but nothing to show for as we’ve known.
Typical.
This is on Lowys FFA, the league followed by the latter entities.
Shit show

Thats been happening at state level for a while mate. This "we need more money" call to arms is from the top NOT the bottom as much anymore.
