Summer of Cricket thread

Good news for you Jon, but I AM BLOODY ROPABLE as the TCA has done it again and snuck under the eyes of our inept selectors to poach three of our best juniors, Kasey Barton, Nitesh Samuel and William Taylor because we did not secure them with rookie contracts. Imho they were a big part of the future of a resurgence of cricket in my state!!!
Lovely! We are great appreciators of NSW talent down here. I hope we put Tom Dwyer as opener to replace Weatherald.

Tas has lost Jake Weatherald back to South Aus. Apparently, his wife and family still live in SA during the cricket season.

Australia winter white-ball tours of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Australia squad for Pakistan ODIs:
Mitchell Marsh (c), Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Riley Meredith, Oliver Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Tanveer Sangha, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Billy Stanlake, Adam Zampa

Australia squad for Bangladesh ODIs: Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Matthew Renshaw, Tanveer Sangha, Liam Scott, Adam Zampa

Australia squad for Bangladesh T20Is: Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Joel Davies, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Matthew Kuhnemann, Riley Meredith, Josh Philippe, Matthew Renshaw, Adam Zampa

Three debutants in bold. Pleased to see the return of Spencer Johnson and the inclusion of Tanveer Sangha. Meredith lucked in over Lance Morris who was not considered having only just recuperated from back surgery.
Meredith has taken a lot of Shield wickets per game this season, but as you suggest on helpful wickets.

Charlie Anderson is not promoted to a full contract
He was not. This is his third yr on the rookie bench. Are our selectors for real. Hey lets neglect our best prospect since Josh Hazlewood emerged for a paceman who averages @30 in first class cricket (Ryan Hadley).

True story. The last junior I recall that was left waiting for a Blues shield debut for three seasons was another pace prospect called Hunar Verma. But instead of finally taking the new ball for his state he was inexplicably delisted. Can you imagine how shattered this must have left the 20 yr old, to the extent that some five yrs later he is now only just starting to get back on his feet in Sydney club cricket. Was he even given an apology or simply told you are no longer needed. How disillusioned would that make a budding young cricketer feel. No wonder Blues cricket is a basket case and those running it need lynching...

Nitesh Samuel
I rate this talented guy as being tailor made for Test cricket. Samuel reminds me of the great Indian stone waller that was a thorn in our side often, Cheteshwar Arvind Pujara, with a similar temperament and technique and like Pujara he does not play with risk but waits for the loose delivery. If anything young Samuel is the better timer of the pair and that is saying something. TCA you have picked up a special batsman...

For Tassie viewers, one of which may be me too shortly.

Tasmania squad for 2026-27: Marcus Bean, Gabe Bell, Jackson Bird, Iain Carlisle, Nikhil Chaudhary, Jake Doran, Nathan Ellis (CA), Brad Hope, Caleb Jewell, Matthew Kuhnemann (CA), Raf MacMillian, Caelan Maladay, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Lawrence Neil-Smith, Mitch Owen, Will Prestwidge, Nivethan Radhakrishnan, Jordan Silk, Billy Stanlake, Tim Ward, Beau Webster (CA), Teague Wyllie.
Rookies: (home grown) Zac Curtain, Aidan O’Connor.

DC half this squad hail from my neck of the woods, including the other three rookies, Barton, Samuel and Taylor, while a further five are from other states. Time TCA prioritised the Tasmanian cricketer more than it does presently. Surely Emerging Tiger Louis Smith deserves to join O'Connor and Curtain and instead of poaching interstate juniors why not instead give local product Tom Dwyer or other ET inductees Riley Whitelaw, Luca Di Venuto or Cooper Stubbs a rookie contract....

The Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades are merging, with the second Big Bash League licence owned by Cricket Victoria to be sold in its entirety to a private investor but it isn't clear whether both teams will still compete in season 2026-27 or with regards to what will happen to players given that their playing lists were in the closing stages of being finalised ahead of the tournament getting underway.

“So @starsbbl are really shutting up shop as the only BBL club in history without a trophy…”

😂
