2026 World Cup Squad

ok so here's what I'm setting as our team for the Australia v Turkey match for EL SIMULACION DE LA COPA DEL MUNDO

TOURE
MABIL IRANKUNDA

VOLPATO
IRVINE METCALFE

BOS SOUTTAR CIRCATI GERIA

RYAN
SUBS: Izzo, Burgess, Herrington, Degenek, Trewin, Behich, O'Neill, Devlin, Hrustic, Velupillay, Leckie, Yengi
RESERVES: Beach, Rowles, Borrello (not on matchday bench - game is limited to bench of 12)

NOTE: PES 2021/Football Life 26 does not feature Okon-Engstler and Jacob Italiano, so these have been replaced by Borrello and Rowles, and placed in reserves because of this.

I think I did alright in turning that into pre-match graphics based off the real one used in the Mexico friendly

In the end, a younger squad is our best squad and that's proven by this World Cup squad. There are only a few players who are 30+ that are actually within the rotation.

12/26 players are born between 2000-2008 and 7-8 of those players are probable starters. A further 8 players are born between 1995-2000 with only 6 players being born between 1990-1994.

The reality is the younger players are taking over this team quickly but that's happening for every footballing country in the world.
I understand your point here and pretty much agree. I read the original post I repled to more as a lets retire the old brigade and start looking at the 2030 World Cup and use the Asian Cup as a development tool which I don't agree with.

This is how I would handle it if I was selecting a squad. I would select my first 16 players as those who I would start a game with. I would add enough players to provide backup for these guys and leave around 3/4 spots to fill. I would look at who is in and ask myself do I have enough experienced cool heads in the squad to act as leaders amongst the players. If I do I would probably add some younger players to round out the squad. If I think I need some players to fill the role that Bresciano did in 2015 I would add a couple like that.

And then we go with the same tried and tested players for the next World Cup cycle?
Next time the Asian Cup may be two years after the world cup so it will have its own cycle. By the next world cup cycle guys like Circati, Bos Toure, Irankunda etc should be the tried and tested players. If they are still fit and playing well then yes we should go with them.

Nice graphic work! AI or own work?

I wouldn’t start Jason Geria though.
This one was all manual - I am trying to put together the template for the NZ one as well (based off their FIFA Series graphics) so I can do it for the lulz with EL SIMULACION

Eh - not really much option there on this one other than maybe Degenek

A long time Socceroos tragic and 1st comment from a fan . We have a country with over 50% of the population that are eligible for another country and that is really unusual , there's probably not another place in the world like that and we just have to accept it . I would much rather Volpato's approach than others .
He's chosen Australia , I fully support him and so should everybody IMHO .
Welcome to the forum!

The Asian Cup is the natural end of this cycle. Sure some of the older players in this squad won't be there, but the focus should always be on winning the Asian Cup. It's the only major trophy we have a chance of winning. We should be picking the best available squad for this.
Yep this

We shouldnt use the asian cup as world cup prep and view it as our most important tournament

An olymoic medal is probably possible too and i wish we took that more seriously again

Half-time stats
Leckie can pull a muscle and Boyle can come in for all I care. If we're going to start Leckie we can enjoy the same stuff we saw against Mexico. He's highly ineffective these days.
One good argument for Boyle is that he's a good penalty taker with an excellent record. Anyway that's academic now. Never let Hrustic grab the ball and put it on the spot again though

Sorry for Boyle and Rowles.Leckie is lucky after yesterday's performance.Beach over Gauci must have been a line ball decision and Borrello was really not up to standard. The die is cast and I am looking forward to the game against Switzerland to see Volpato and hopefully Yengi. Also would like Devlin to be given some minutes.
Those 3 absolutely have to be given substantial game time vs Switz, otherwise you'd be throwing them in the deep end untested

Borello should not have been there in camp.

But we have included Beach, Behich, Vellupillay and Leckie from what has basically been relatively poor Melbourne sides and Okon-Englster from Sydney FC.

All could be argued have better options OS playing well at a higher level as well as a number of better options playing for the Jets. It really looks like Football Australia has said you need to pick as many ALM players as possible from our big markets.

I still think the last 3 after the traditional 23 should be 'x-factor players'. People that don't necessarily fit our system but to be used when our system is not working.
Last sentence is spot on. Of course our Group D opponents will have figured out how best to counter us because the pattern never changes. A wily cunning manager would throw in a few surprises, as you say, with X factor

I think now that squad has been picked & Poppa (like him or not or his decisions) is our manager & we have to back him.

With no Mooy or Rogic to pick from, we really do lack a quality creative midfielder to pick, so I think Poppa has picked a very workmanlike midfield, I would've liked Alex Robertson, but our best creative midfielder from League one was not going to scare many teams.
All other line ball misses are squadies only anyway.
I maybe would have liked a couple of young bolters for experience like Bennie or young Adams from Newcastle.
You mean you're not Alex Robertson??? Disappointed.
