High Volpato Voltage

I showed no interest when he looked like playing for Italy.

Another member of G and G sent me extended highlights of Volpato in Serie A. He looks high quality.

Volpato will be an enormous boost to the Socceroos!

He realises Italy will never qualify for a WC. Can’t believe it? They’ve missed out on 3 successive WCs, yet Italy have one of the UEFA Big Five domestic leagues. They’ve won 4 WCs.
Italy will never qualify for a World Cup??? I can only presume this is humour.

Volpato flew all the way to Oz to fix his passport to be able to play.

Despite my excellent experience with consular services abroad, he may have needed some sort of local application for this case. Good on him and I can imagine positive things if he and Irankunda start together.

Explains a lot. He landed in Sydney Friday morning and left Saturday morning AEST and arrived Saturday morning PDT in LA. He met the team for the first time as they were having their pre-game meal. No chance he was playing only being in LA for single digit hours before the game.

Excited for his debut next week.

If you level it based on club rather than league then Riley McGree plays at a higher level than Jackson Irvine and Maty Ryan.
The English Champ, McGree, isn’t as highly ranked as the Bundi, Irvine, or La Liga, Ryan, to the best of my knowledge?

Is it?

To the best of my knowledge, the UEFA Big Five, the South American Big Two, are ranked the top 7 leagues in the world.

I think next ranked are Netherlands, Portugal, Belgian Juliper and Switzerland.

Those two are good either side too so could float and cause havoc.

I think the Champ is ranked pretty high, mostly because the money they have at their disposal is very high, higher than the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgian Juliper or Switzerland leagues.

I read the Champ is 6th richest league in the world.

They don’t have top teams with serious UEFA pedigree like Ajax, Benfica, Sporting, PSV, Feyenoorde, Anderlecht, Grasshoppers, etc.

There’s an obvious structural reason for that (not having teams with UEFA pedigree).

Because they don't get access to those comps. It would be interesting to see a Champ team in the Europa League. I think they'd go really well.

See, I told you all not to chase the hottie and just wait.

Looks like he was the nottie in the Italian national team space and they just weren't interested so he pivoted. I'm not sure how to feel about this truth be told.
What CAN we feel but some sort of mild dismay that the player we are giving a a national team debut to (1st official game in a WC no less) is not good enough or young enough to be considered part of Italy's scorched earth rebuild .

But Poppa didn't sell the shirt apparently. .. Hope the paisano is worth it.

Has anyone thought that this has actually been in the pipeline for quite a while? He's had to go back to Sydney to sort out Passport issues (which can take weeks if not months)& he's also had to sort out his eligibility with FIFA & the Italian football federation. I'd say that he was omitted from the recent Italian squad, because the process was nearly finalised. And yes, he is worth it

I don't care about the turncoat side of things, any advantage we can get the better. Wish him the best.
I will say this though. I really would not want to be in his shoes if he puts a shot wide in front of an open goal, or misses a pen, or cops a red, or concedes an own goal, or even just coughs up the ball which results in the opposition scoring.

Oh I dont either, the kid made his bed, its time to lie in it.. I just hope we aren't pinning our dreams on some other country's cast offs... Hope he bags in 20 goals.
