When I was looking at picking the 26 before camp - I had 18 that made camp (didn't know about Volpato but had Arena as Striker 3). so i had around 7 that are in the squad that I wouldn't have picked.

With the exception of Arena I think that could have been picked by Popovic when he first started. So we have tried all these players to come up with bench players that still fill us with little confidence.

I'd take Gauci over Beach though I think his drop out may be pointing the other way. I think Trewin wins over Geria for his versatility. Rowles stays as I suspect that Bos will be deployed as a straight winger at times and having Rowles able to cover CB and RWB is handy. Borello also to miss out (shouldn't have been there). Finally I suspect Leckie may have played himself out of the squad.

Hopefully a number (including the four being cut) have been told to stick around until the first game in case of injury. TBH both Leckie and O'Neill still looked injured.

Paying them lots doesn’t make them good. As we saw this season our squad just isn’t good. We also beat a Frankfurt team that came third in the Bundesliga. Either way, my point was about him being the next Socceroos head coach, not returning as Spurs manager.

It'll be good to give Lucas Herrington more international experience ahead of the World Cup getting underway as well as to see how Tete Yengi runs in the forward line in addition to giving Volpato a cap so he's locked in to the Socceroos also.
 
Looking at our xi v japan at home there were only 4 starters in that team that started last night

It can feel like the youth are taking over slowly but it has actually been a pretty quick flux in players
 
I'll have to give Trewin a closer look. The pass to Hrustic and there was one other good moment I'll need to see again. The pass to Hrustic by Trewin made me think that Metcalfe would be sound in the RWB position too. His roaming versatility can add a lot more.

I know it was O'Neill that was beaten for the header but I think if Burgess is there he gets the header and O'Neill and the Mexican end up on the floor. That said Herrington will be arong the first team for a decade at least.
 


Mexico highlights. 10min for 1st half and 4 for 2nd half. It shows how much more we did in the second and Mexico did nothing. They dedicated 10min to the first half of a 14min video.

Its been interesting, if our midfield get replaced by younger players in the next 2 years we will have technicians in all outfield positions. Curious if we see a change of style from poppa soon, irvine has only a year or two left at this level u would think
