Socceroos vs Mexico/Switzerland - Pre-World Cup Friendlies 2026 🇦🇺🇲🇽🇨🇭

I'm content in that there is a system in place and the players are responding to it. The big issue is the poor midfielders. Changes to personnel will improve that.

Any questions surrounding Leckie have been answered.

Good minutes for Souttar and Herrington.

Bos clear and strong in his role. Toure starved of the ball so tighter play and once we get Irankunda and Volpato on it should look better.
Yeah if we are playing Mo, Volpato, Irankunda and Bos at the same time, it'll be so much better for a player like Mo. Massive beneficiary of their presence.

We will see in the second half (probably 60th minute), if Irankunda replaces Toure or Leckie/Metcalfe.

Mo has barely touched the ball can understand why he didn't put it away.
He knows it's a bad miss. He needs to get some shots away now just to ensure confidence. Don't think he's shot just yet.

Leckie is very useless tho. Too slow at this level.

Metcalfe is same Metcalfe.

Irvine is actually okay

Anyone remember the Tilio miss NZ away? We've been here before.

Those two friendlies taught us very little and we went on to have a record tournament.

Agree on Irvine. He looked good with no help.

I think Devlin needs to play to provide a screen so that Irvine can get around the pitch more.

Can you get Vegemite in Europe ?
Thanks to the UK Aus free trade deal it's become even more readily available and affordable. Big UK supermarkets have it.

The new Aus EU deal may see it it speciality shops but it's harder to find in the continent. I stock up en mass when going to London.

Tim Tams and Shapes are occasionally cheaper in the UK than Australia after conversion.

Metcalfe needs to come tighter. We're not giving Mexico enough credit for their own coverage here.

Our possession is always a nervy move on the ball.

I'm going to Italy in September so what I usually do is take a jar with me. Mrs EZ rolls her eye when I spread it on brioches.

I get Popa wants to play like this but the two 6s doesn't really work. You need someone who can carry and keep the ball in the Mooy mould. Especially when we have the ball as much as we do, need someone who can keep it. Irvine and O'Neill individually may be good but together it has never and will continue to not work.

Robbo anyone?

Everyone knows Irvine offers quite a bit in a full 90-minutes, even though his ability on the ball is not at the level it needs to be. A lot of good teams have a player like that because you can mask his weaknesses with the players around them. BUT... with a player like Irvine, you can not have 3 players like Leckie, O'Neill and Metcalfe also around him. You are just creating four players with similar output and weaknesses.

We have used Circati's normally accurate long balls to play out a lot but they have been really off tonight
Alessandro Circati will need to be working on long ball accuracy ahead of the friendly against Switzerland given how reliant we'll be on punting the ball long during our World Cup campaign.

O'Neill has been an absolute passenger and shouldn't even be in the squad at this rate. Maybe that injury is lingering.
Aiden O'Neill should not have been in the matchday squad altogether for this friendly given that he's only just returning from injury and isn't fully right to be getting game time for the Socceroos against such a physical opponent as Mexico.
